While Wizards fans are excited to see Young make his debut, expectations should definitely be tempered for the guard. While he’s set to face an NBA-worst Jazz defense, he’s been sidelined since December 27 with knee and quad injuries. There are several concerns in this situation that could limit his production. Young could be rusty after the long break, may need time to adjust to new teammates, and — perhaps most of all — will be limited to 17-20 minutes, according to head coach Brian Keefe.
It’s hard to envision Young clearing 14.5 points in such a limited role. The former All-Star is only scoring 0.7 points per minute this season, which would equate to 14 points over 20 minutes. The 27-year-old is also shooting a career-worst 30.5% from beyond the arc — and he’s unlikely to find his rhythm with so many variables.
