Origin of The Mountain
‘The Mountain’ has been discussed for several years at this point. Back in 2023 at Coachella, frontman Damon Albarn described the upcoming album as a “paradigm shift“, taking Gorillaz somewhere they’ve “never been before.” Albarn and illustrator Jamie Hewlett have traveled to India since then, a trip that left a lasting impact on the music and art in their latest work.
While the group makes bold choices with ‘The Mountain’, there are some common threads longtime fans will recognize. The most obvious is their use of notable collaborators, such as The Clash’s Paul Simonon, The Smiths’ Johnny Marr and The Roots’ Black Thought. Each track on the album has at least one special guest collaborator.
