After a brief six-episode arc, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 has come to a close. Ser Duncan the Tall and Prince Aegon V Targaryen are officially paired up as knight and squire, ready to make their way through Westeros. However, Dunk and Egg’s ongoing adventures won’t necessarily be the focus of our next look into George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world on HBO. There are other Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works, including the continuation of House of the Dragon.

When does House of the Dragon season 3 come out?
House of the Dragon season 3 will be the next Game of Thrones project to hit HBO. The network announced its impending arrival in November 2025, then confirmed its June 2026 release window in February. HBO also released a teaser trailer prior to the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 finale.
A fourth and final season of House of the Dragon season 4 is also on the slate for 2028. Barring any change in plans from showrunner Ryan Condal and HBO CEO Casey Bloys, that will mark the end of the show’s run.
When does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 come out?
Before A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 even premiered, HBO greenlit the series for season 2. As part of that press release last November, the network confirmed that said second season would start filming in December 2025 and premiere sometime in 2027.
HBO has yet to publicly announce plans for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 3. But since season 1 stuck so close to The Hedge Knight, showrunner Ira Parker still has two published Dunk and Egg novellas left at his disposal. Season 2 should tackle The Sworn Sword, leaving The Mystery Knight for season 3. Parker also said he has access to more than a dozen more outlines and ideas of future Dunk and Egg novellas straight from Martin that could serve as inspiration for seasons 4 and beyond.
Are there any other Game of Thrones spinoffs in development?
The Hollywood Reporter recently ran an in-depth profile on George R.R. Martin, revealing that an adaptation of King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros is in the works. HBO is developing the story as a drama series, while Warner Bros. is attempting to spin it into a “mammoth Dune-sized feature film.” Aegon’s conquest took place 298 years before the events of Game of Thrones season 1. For context, House of the Dragon started 186 years before the mainline show, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms started 89 years before we first meet Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister.
Additionally, the potential sequel series following Jon Snow has been scrapped. Instead, French-Vietnamese writer-producer Quoc Dang Tran is working on an Arya Stark sequel as part of his overall deal with HBO. On top of that, the network is reportedly developing an animated spinoff series following the Sea Snake – Corlys Velaryon from House of the Dragon.
Martin is also working with director Dominic Cooke on a stage production, Game of Thrones: The Mad King. The play will follow Lyanna Stark’s forbidden romance with Rhaegar Targaryen and how it leads to Robert Baratheon’s rebellion against King Aerys II. Younger versions of Ned, Varys and Jamie Lannister will feature prominently. The production will begin performances at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon in summer 2026.
