Despite their recent form, United are still in fifth position and level on points with sixth-placed Liverpool and fourth-placed Chelsea. They have played one fewer game than their competitors, however, so a win on Monday would see them climb into fourth and three points clear of both sides and only three points behind third-placed Aston Villa.
On the flip side, Everton are in a race for seventh position. It feels like the top six in this season’s table are pretty locked in, and clubs like Brentford, Bournemouth and Everton are battling for that seventh position and a potential spot in Europe next season. The Toffees would be level on points with seventh-placed Brentford with a win in this one.
Everton are not in the best form at the moment, winning one of their last four games. Things could be worse, however, as they have only lost one of those with two draws mixed in between.
Man United have gotten the better of this fixture recently, although not by much. The Red Devils have won two of the last four Premier League meetings between the teams, with one draw and one loss. Given their current form and the stakes of this game for Champions League football next season, I think United find a way to collect the three points in a close game.
