He’s notched at least one assist in each of the five games so far, so we’re looking at a 100% hit rate in the small sample of these tournament games. Beyond that, Hughes leads the Americans in TOI per game at a staggering 23:05 of action. He’s out there more than any other skater while anchoring the top defensive pairing. As one of the best offensive playmakers in the sport, there’s a reason he frequently finds himself on the watch list for the Norris Trophy back home as well. He doesn’t just see ghosts — he also sees teammates primed for scoring chances. Play just flows through Hughes, which is why I like him to pick up one more assist in this contest at -130 odds.
Macklin Celebrini 5+ shots on goal (-130)
We’ve got another -130 play here that you can take on its own or add into an SGP. Have you heard that young superstar Macklin Celebrini leads the entire Olympic field of skaters with five goals in this tournament? If you didn’t know before, you do now! The 19-year-old is pulling off an incredible feat that San Jose Sharks and Canadian hockey fans are surely cheering on with delightful glee, but his impact goes beyond the attempts he’s buried. Celebrini sits second on Team Canada with 22 shot attempts across this competition and has looked very aggressive thus far while playing on the top line with none other than Connor McDavid. The latter’s presence is making life easier for his younger counterpart, which means Celebrini is truly thriving with the best playmaker in the world alongside him. With at least four shots in all but one game so far and an eight-shot performance under his belt, he could play a key role once more as the Canadians turn to their top goalscorer. Celebrini should flirt with this line, so I like it a lot as a builder to a parlay.
Jack Eichel 4+ shots on goal (-105)
The final pick we’re going with here is 4+ shots on goal for American star Jack Eichel. The frontman of the Vegas Golden Knights, the center has blossomed as a top option for Team USA over the last couple of years and looks like he may be on pace to usurp Auston Matthews as captain in the long run. He’s had an excellent tournament thus far with six points on two goals and four assists, and his 22 shots are the most of any skater on the roster. Here’s the deal — with a couple of excellent goalies between the pipes in Connor Hellebuyck and Jordan Binnington, the reality of the situation is that we may not see a ton of scoring. As much as I’d love to take Eichel to simply record a point, a -245 listing doesn’t make that worthwhile and I’m not sure if a prop bet like 2+ points makes sense given that this game could easily end with a 2-1 final score. So, we end up here with this SOG play for the United States’ first-line center. He’s playing excellent hockey and his 17:53 TOI mark leads the entire forward group as well. With plenty of playing time and at least four shots in three-of-five games in this tournament, Eichel should tally another four SOG on Sunday.
