Purdue Boilermakers vs. Indiana Hoosiers prediction, pick for NCAAM on Friday 2/20/26

Purdue Boilermakers vs. Indiana Hoosiers prediction, pick for NCAAM on Friday 2/20/26

Purdue are 21-5 and 11-4 in the Big Ten Conference, and they are trying to steady themselves after the 91-80 loss to Michigan that snapped a four-game win streak. Indiana are 17-9 and 8-7, already own the 72-67 upset in the first meeting on Jan. 27, and they just showed the ceiling again by beating Oregon 92-74 behind Lamar Wilkerson’s 41. This is the rivalry spot where pace feels like a choice and every whistle feels like a decision, and the series weight is real with Indiana trailing 126-94 all-time. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Purdue Boilermakers and the Indiana Hoosiers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Purdue vs. Indiana prediction, preview

Indiana is playing in a 70.1-possession band with a 1.146 offensive efficiency, and Purdue sits at 68.1 possessions with a 1.211 offensive efficiency, and the raw production matches it with Purdue at 82.5 points per game and Indiana at 80.3. Purdue’s edge is that it wins the possession battle without needing chaos: 57.3% eFG, 11.7% turnovers per play, a nation-leading 2.126 assists-to-turnover ratio, and a 34.5% offensive-rebound rate is a steady stream of extra shots that keeps the floor from going cold for long. Indiana’s answer is a different kind of stability, built on conversion and free points: 55.4% eFG, 78.8% at the line, and a 26.5% free-throw-attempts-per-play rate, plus the volume profile that keeps the total alive with 29.4 threes attempted per game and 10.2 makes. The profile clash is clean: Purdue leans into twos at a 59.4% two-point rate, Indiana leans into threes at a 51.2% three-point rate, and both teams are efficient enough that a normal shooting night can still land this game in the 150s, especially with Indiana shooting 39.1% from three and Purdue at 37.5%.

The names match the levers, and the rematch context matters for who has to carry the load late. Braden Smith runs the whole Purdue machine at 14.9 points and 8.8 assists, and that playmaking sits near the very top nationally in assists per game, which is exactly how a favorite avoids the five-minute drought that turns a total into a sweat. Trey Kaufman-Renn gives Purdue the margin insurance inside, and he is at 13.0 points and 9.1 rebounds on the season, which matters in a rivalry game where misses start to feel like turnovers. Fletcher Loyer is still the perimeter temperature check at 13.4 per game, and Purdue’s ceiling looks different when the catch-and-shoot threes start falling early. Daniel Jacobsen is the rim piece, and even in the first meeting he got to two blocks, which changes how Indiana has to finish at the cup.

Indiana’s cover path starts with Wilkerson at 21.2 per game, because he is the one player who can turn a quiet stretch into eight quick points, and that scoring rank lives in the national conversation. The first meeting already proved the sidekicks can swing it too, with Wilkerson scoring 19 and Nick Dorn adding 18 in the 72-67 win. And when possessions tighten, Conor Enright’s 4.8 assists and Sam Alexis’s interior presence are the connective pieces that keep Indiana from becoming only one-guy offense.

Indiana vs. Purdue pick, best bet

This rivalry can choke a total and still produce a Purdue win, because Indiana’s defense can really guard. Indiana is holding opponents to 31.1% from three and a 47.1% opponent eFG, which is exactly how a game stays in the 70-66 neighborhood even when the favorite is cleaner. Purdue is also built to limit the easy bailout points, with a lower foul profile than Indiana in the season logbook: Purdue is at 14.6 personal fouls per game while Indiana sits at 18.4, and that gap matters if the whistle stays quiet early. The market is daring everyone to pick a side anyway: Purdue -11.5 is the board number, and the total is floating in the high-140s across the market even while 150.5 is available on the board in hand, with a widely shared projection band sitting around Purdue by 10.5 and a 148.5 total. If Indiana avoids live-ball mistakes and keeps getting to the line, it can lose and still cash a big number, especially because it is also drawing 18.1 opponent fouls per game, which is the hidden fuel for late scoring and late backdoors.

The context stack is simple and it translates directly into the scoreboard. The pressure is on; Purdue is coming off a home game where it was forced to chase from an early hole against Michigan. Purdue is playing for seeding posture and cannot afford another slip in a game it is supposed to control, which usually means tighter rotation minutes and fewer careless possessions, and that pairs with a profile that already protects the ball and manufactures clean looks through assists. Indiana, under first-year coach Darian DeVries, has already shown it will lean into guard shotmaking and free throws to survive these spots, which maps to the 78.8% free-throw conversion and the heavy three volume that keeps scoring alive even when the half-court gets sticky. The rematch energy also tends to create late points, because the trailing side keeps fouling and the leading side keeps playing offense, and that is how a game can clear even without a track meet.

The best bet is over 149.5, playable to 151.5. Purdue’s efficiency base is too clean to bet on a second straight rock-fight, with 82.5 points per game on 49.7% shooting and a 2.126 assist-to-turnover ratio that keeps the offense breathing, and Indiana’s free-throw profile plus 80.3 points per game on 50.8% shooting gives the underdog a scoring floor even if the threes wobble. The spread lean is Indiana +11.5, because the first meeting already proved the game can stay possession-tight, and Indiana’s opponent-three number is the exact backdoor oxygen. One thing that can beat the over is Indiana repeating the 72-67 script with long empty trips and Purdue winning by grinding twos without foul-stops. One thing that can beat the Indiana number is Purdue catching a home-court shooting surge and forcing Indiana into foul trouble early, turning it into a run game instead of a half-court tug-of-war.

Prediction: Purdue 82, Indiana 72.

Best bet: Purdue vs. Indiana o149.5 total points (-115)
