The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is about to come to a close. Unlike the 10-episode seasons of Games of Thrones or the eight-episode seasons of House of the Dragon, the latest George R.R. Martin adaptation will wrap up after episode 6. But with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms delivering three narrative-shattering episodes in a row, there just might be some benefits to the compressed run.

When does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms come out?
Like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon and most other major HBO titles, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is releasing one episode a week. This will be the sixth and final episode of season 1, but the network already renewed the show for season 2 set to premiere in 2027.
Season 1, episode 6 will drop on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, February 22 at 9 p.m. ET. The episode, titled “The Morrow” is expected to have a runtime around 31 minutes.

The smaller scope and shorter runtime of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms limited how many characters we met over the course of this season. Dunk’s feuds with some major houses have taken center stage, though, so ancestors and descendants of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon characters are still in the mix. Bertie Carvel might appear as Prince Baelor ‘Breakspear’ Targaryen, but only as a corpse. The deceased Ser Humfrey Hardyng and Ser Humphrey Beesbury could make similar appearances, although their funerals likely won’t be as critical to the falling action.
What to expect in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6
With Baelor Targaryen dead, there is plenty of blame to go around. His brother, Prince Maekar, seemingly delivered the fatal blow, but the Kingsguard didn’t uphold their oaths to protect him either. Of course, Baelor only volunteered to fight with Dunk because Prince Aerion refused to face Dunk in a standard 1-on-1 trial by combat. The Trial of Seven at the Tourney at Ashford Meadow wasn’t as deadly as the last one Westeros had seen hundreds of years earlier, but it still featured a costly price for the Targaryen dynasty to pay.
Since Baelor was the Hand of the King and heir to the Iron Throne, King Daeron II will have to select a new protector of the realm and a new successor. Dunk will also have to make a choice, now that his tournament debut has come to a close. Instead of lending his services to Baelor, Dunk could have interest from Ser Lyonel Baratheon and Prince Maekar alike. Maekar is Egg’s father, and Egg seems as dedicated to Dunk as ever. Whether or not he will welcome back the little Targaryen as his squire remains to be seen, however, and the same goes for where the towering hedge knight will go next.
From the start of Game of Thrones through the latest seasons of House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the penultimate episode of each season typically features the biggest battles and the most action. The season finales, on the other hand, deal with the fallout while also laying the groundwork for the following season, rather than ending on cliffhangers.
