BREAK IT DOWN:
(stats taken from DraftKings Sportsbook’s Stats Hub)
Donovan Mitchell 25+ Points (-179): If there was any worry about how the presence of James Harden might impact Donovan Mitchell’s scoring, that’s probably been put to rest after the duo’s first three games together. Mitchell’s exceeded the 30-point plateau in all three contests, with Harden clearly ceding the reigns of the Cavaliers’ offense to the incumbent. In fact, in the 54 minutes that the pair have shared the court, Mitchell’s usage rate is a jaw-dropping 35.3%, while Harden’s sits at just 19.1%. Maybe those figures will tighten with some more familiarity, but at the moment, Mitchell is still this team’s No. 1 option by a mile. I don’t expect Mitchell to have any issue hitting the over on this prop on Thursday night, especially in a matchup with the lowly Nets. Across its past 15 games, Brooklyn owns the Eastern Conference’s worst defensive rating (120.4).
Cade Cunningham 25+ Points (-134): For the season, Cunningham is averaging 25.3 points per contest, so this prop is pretty much in lock-step with how the former first-overall pick has performed on a nightly basis. That said, Cunningham has notably picked up his play so far in February — and I’m not just talking about an impressive All-Star Game showing. After a bit of a scoring slump in the middle of January, the guard has managed at least 28 points in four of his last five starts. Cunningham is also mustering a season-high 60.2% true shooting rate in the month, which is made even more impressive by a 32.1% usage rate. This is a case of both efficiency and volume. The Knicks are slow-paced and stout defensively, having surrendered only 108.7 opponent points per 100 possessions over their last five games, yet the Pistons will be relying on Cunningham to put the ball in the basket. I think he hits this prop.
Julian Champagnie 3+ Three-Pointers Made (+258): Champagnie is the somewhat forgotten fifth starter on the Spurs’ star-studded roster. Still, the 24-year-old has carved out a nice little role for himself in his fourth year in the league, averaging 11.1 points and 2.4 made three-pointers per contest. With all that said, this remains a very ambitious prop, and a bet where I struggle to see the rationale for public frenzy. San Antonio is fully healthy coming out of the break, and will be opposed by a Suns team that ranks top 10 in the NBA in defensive rating (112.7). On top of that, Champagnie was held scoreless in his final game before All-Star weekend, going 0-for-3 from the field in 19.8 minutes versus the Warriors. Overall, he’s failed to hit at least three three-pointers in a single contest in eight of his past nine starts. Champagnie did make 11 threes back on December 31, though. That was fun.
3-Pick Parlay
Taking three of the most-bet player props individually is always an option, but why not roll them into a parlay and get in on all the action at once? It’s a fun way to tie everything together — feel free to tag along.
