Hawaii Rainbow Warriors vs. Cal Poly Mustangs prediction, pick for NCAAM on Thursday 2/19/26

Hawaii is walking into another island-night where the gym tightens and the standings start talking back. A win tonight would be an 11th straight home win and keep Hawaii sitting at 15-1 at home, which is the whole point of building a Big West chase around this floor. Cal Poly is 11-15, and the profile is obvious: it wants a track meet, then it wants the math to get weird. The first meeting already drew the blueprint, with Hawaii winning 86-66 in San Luis Obispo. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the Cal Poly Mustangs.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Hawaii vs. Cal Poly prediction, preview

Hawaii’s defense is the spine of the bet. It allows 0.921 points per possession, fifth nationally, and it strangles ball movement with only 9.1 opponent assists per game, No. 1 in the country. That matters tonight because Cal Poly lives on three-volume, taking 32.4 threes per game and making 11.0, and Hawaii has been elite at erasing that oxygen. Tempo will not save Cal Poly either; Cal Poly lives around 77.9 possessions while Hawaii sits around 74.3, so this game can run and still belong to the better stop-getter. Cal Poly’s other problem is the defensive floor: 85.7 allowed per game with a defensive efficiency sitting around 1.076.

Hawaii has a real late-game stabilizer and Cal Poly is wing-led and sloppy. Isaac Johnson scores 13.4 per game and shoots 51.2% from the field with 86.0% at the line, which is exactly the closer profile that turns foul windows into points instead of sweat. Hunter Erickson keeps the offense stitched together at 3.8 assists per game, and Dre Bullock brings point-of-attack disruption at 1.6 steals. Cal Poly answers with Hamad Mousa as the engine at 20.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, plus Peter Bandelj as the organizer at 3.3 assists, but those touches come with a turnover tax in this matchup.

Cal Poly vs. Hawaii pick, best bet

olume threes can keep any underdog alive, and the market has priced pace with the total lifted into the 161s. But the same variance cuts against Cal Poly because the defense allows too much clean air and the turnovers create short fields. Cal Poly is at 15.7 turnovers per game, and Hawaii is also loose at 13.9, so the game can get noisy fast. Noise is fine when the favorite owns the shot-quality edge and the better stop profile.

This is the kind of spot where the model runway matches the eye test. BartTorvik makes this closer to Hawaii -15.2, and though that’s not always reliable, it’s a fairly sizeable gap here. The play is Hawaii -10.5 at -115, playable to -11.5, because the most repeatable outcomes are Hawaii choking off assisted threes and scoring efficiently against a defense that bleeds. One thing that can beat this bet is Hawaii turnover slop creating extra Cal Poly possessions that keep the margin stuck at nine.

Hawaii 82, Cal Poly 69.

Best bet: Hawaii -10.5 (-115) vs. Cal Poly
