The 2026 Winter Olympics keep rolling in Milan, Italy on Wednesday. The men’s hockey playoff is in full swing with the Quarterfinals taking place today and the world’s best teams in action. With the schedule halfway over, the third contest of the day pits Switzerland against Finland in what could be a pretty tight battle.

Switzerland vs. Finland prediction, preview
Team Switzerland won two games in the Group Stage, one of which came in regulation over France by a 4-0 margin before a 4-3 overtime victory over Czechia. The lone loss occurred at the hands of the Canadian favorites 5-1, but clearly that hasn’t stuck with the Swiss. In the qualifying contest to punch a ticket to the Quarterfinal, they beat Italy in a 3-0 shutout while putting up a dominant 51 SOG. What kind of numbers have those outings resulted in? Over four contests in total, Switzerland has scored 12 goals on 136 shots while allowing just eight on 118 attempts. While they haven’t limited opposing shots all that well, those other marks all look pretty great for the most part and the Swiss boast a 31.25% PP%.
The star of the show for Switzerland is Timo Meier (NJD) with seven points, second-most of any skater in this tournament. The next-closest scorers on the roster are Roman Josi (NSH), Nico Hischier (NJD) and Janis Moser (TBL) with four, while two more players have three points apiece. As for the goalkeepers, Leonardo Genoni has three wins and two shutouts, recording an incredible .962 SV% and 0.99 GAA.
Finland, meanwhile, entered this Winter Games with hopes of competing for a gold. The group faced more adversity than anticipated, dropping its opening game to Slovakia 4-1 and starting off on a sour note. However, the Finns rebounded nicely over the following week with a statement 4-1 victory over Sweden, another strong competitor, as well as an 11-0 destruction of Italy. In that last game, Finland actually set a new IIIHF record with 62 SOG, shattering the previous record of 60 set only days before by the Swedes. After three games thus far, this team has scored the second-most goals (16) on the fourth-most shots (126), allowing the second-fewest to opponents (five) on the third-fewest attempts (75).
There are numerous contributors for the Finns rather than one major standout. Four skaters have four points apiece between Joel Armia (LAK), Artturi Lehkonen (COL), Kaapo Kakko (SEA) and Mikko Rantanen (DAL). Behind them are a handful of three-point players headlined by Sebastian Aho (CAR), Eetu Luostarinen (FLA), Erik Haula (NSH), Mikael Granlund (ANA) and Niko Milkkola (FLA). It’s been a true team effort, but the work of Juuse Saros (NSH) in net hasn’t gone underappreciated, either. He’s performed to the tune of a .946 SV% and 1.34 GAA across his three contests, playing every minute in net for Finland so far.
Switzerland vs. Finland pick, best bet
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Finland is a -1.5 favorite on the puck line with -245 odds of an outright win. Switzerland holds +200 odds on the Moneyline with the game total set at 5.5 combined goals.
There are a couple of options we can take here. For starters, the goalie play on both sides is flat-out fantastic, so under 5.5 goals makes sense even if the odds sit at -142. However, there’s plenty of talent on both sides of this equation that could get the better of hot streaks from the netminders, and with both teams capable of putting plenty of pucks on the net, I’d actually endorse the over in this situation at +120 for better value.
Plus, that means I don’t have to pick a winner of this matchup. Finland has the upper hand without a doubt and is more talent-laden, but the Swiss have been quite feisty as well. I simply don’t feel good about choosing a spread bet here, but I can almost guarantee that this’ll be a fun matchup between quality sides. After some blowouts in recent days, it marks a welcome change. Tune in, just stick to the total.
