Things have gone from bad to worse for the Sacramento Kings. With the league set to return from the NBA’s All-Star break, three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after undergoing season-ending surgery on his torn meniscus.
Sabonis suited up for just 19 contests this season and is posting averages of 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. His injury has only been a part of the issue, but the Kings have slipped to an NBA-worst 12-44 record. Sacramento went into the All-Star break on a 14-game losing streak.
Zach LaVine is also undergoing season-ending surgery due to a tendon issue in his hands.
There are still 26 games remaining in the regular season for the Kings, but the focus seems to have already shifted to next year. With a loaded upcoming draft class and a bleak outlook in a competitive Western Conference, Sabonis is getting a head start on getting his body right.
The Kings will face the Orlando Magic to kick off the post All-Star portion of the season. Orlando enters as 8.5-point favorites for this matchup, while the Kings hold +310 odds of pulling off the outright upset on DraftKings Sportsbook.
