Just as the dust settles from the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl LX victory and the NFL offseason hits full gear, some surprising news broke. The Miami Dolphins have elected to release star wide receiver Tyreek Hill in a financially motivated move. The organization also released Bradley Chubb and fired Mike McDaniel as head coach at the start of the offseason as it begins to turn a page on a new era.
Tyreek Hill will now become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career and is free to sign with whatever team he pleases. It is worth noting that he is still recovering from his gruesome dislocated knee and torn ACL that he suffered in Week 4 of last season. The recovery timeline was initially listed as nine-to-10 months for Hill. While there has not been an updated injury projection, the door at least seems open for him to be ready at the start of the season.
At full strength, there is no doubt Hill remains one of the premier wide receivers in all of football. The 31-year-old possesses game-changing speed that can elevate any offense. Here is a look at three teams that should be lining up to provide Hill with his next NFL opportunity.

3. Las Vegas Raiders
This season will mark the start of a new era for the Las Vegas Raiders. Coming off a 3-14 season last year, Pete Carroll went one-and-done in his lone season as head coach. He has been replaced by former Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. The Raiders also have the first overall pick in the NFL Draft and seemingly already have the name Fernando Mendoza next to it. The National Championship and Heisman-winning quarterback would provide a jolt of life to the franchise, but there is plenty of work that still needs to be done to the roster.
Adding a player like Tyreek Hill would help make the transition much easier for the rookie quarterback and make the Las Vegas offense far more dangerous across the board. Last season, Tre Tucker was the team’s leading wide receiver with 696 receiving yards. You could make the case that the quarterback was a far bigger cause for these passing game struggles, but the hope is that this will be fixed this season as well. With a new quarterback, a new coach and a new offensive system, bringing in Tyreek Hill would be a major statement toward the leap the Raiders intend to make. With some intriguing young talent of players like Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas is not as far off as its raw record indicates. Adding Hill would be the type of splash to really make these intentions clear, and it has the cap space to put a real offer on the table.

2. Los Angeles Chargers
Staying in the AFC West, the Los Angeles Chargers are in a difficult spot as a franchise. Justin Herbert took a massive beating due to the lack of effective offensive line play last year. Herbert also provided a bit more evidence to the growing concerns of him being unable to execute in big moments and lead a team on a playoff journey. He and the Chargers blew a 27-0 lead in his playoff debut, Herbert threw four interceptions in the postseason loss last year, and he led the team to just three points in this year’s playoff matchup with the Patriots. Herbert threw for just 159 passing yards and fumbled twice in as much of a blowout as a game in which the opponent scores 16 points could be.
But the biggest change that has already been made by the Chargers thus far is bringing in Mike McDaniel as the offensive coordinator. The goal of this is for McDaniel to further maximize Herbert’s skillset, and he has four years of experience coaching Hill.
The relationship between the star wide receiver and his former head coach has had some ups and downs. But it feels fair to assess that most of McDaniel’s downfall was his personality not being exactly compatible with being a head coach. He is still a football genius who can scheme players open as well as anyone in the league, and Hill produced a career-high 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. Ladd McConkey is effective in his role, Quentin Johnston showed some encouraging progress last year, and Keenan Allen still has something left in the tank. But the Chargers still lack a true top WR1 that Hill could fill. The star pass catcher is on the shortlist of players who can change the way opposing teams defend, and McDaniel has plenty of familiarity with how to maximize his skillset. Los Angeles still has plenty of work to do in the trenches, but the relationship with McDaniel could be a factor here.

1. Kansas City Chiefs
Sometimes, to move forward, you have to go back. Tyreek Hill became a breakout NFL star in Kansas City, recording 6,630 receiving yards and 56 receiving touchdowns across his six seasons with the franchise. As his contract continued to inflate and personality wore on the organization a bit, the Chiefs elected to wash their hands and trade him to the Dolphins.
The Chiefs have pushed the limit of the theory that Patrick Mahomes can elevate any pass catchers around him, and they have paid the price for this. Kansas City missed the playoffs outright last season with Mahomes suffering an ACL tear of his own. This interrupted a streak of the Chiefs making or winning the Super Bowl in five of the last six years. Wide receiver production was a clear source of these struggles, with Marquise “Hollywood” Brown leading the team with 587 receiving yards last year. With Travis Kelce’s future seeming uncertain, this is even more important for the Chiefs. They have failed to properly replace Hill since he left, and there is no better guy to fill these shoes than the same guy who left them empty. Both sides have seemingly come to the realization that the grass is not greener elsewhere, and patching things up would be best for each. Getting more talent at the wide receiver position is a must for the Chiefs this season, and Hill should be right back at the top of their list.
