Boston University Terriers vs. Colgate Raiders prediction, pick for NCAAM on Monday 2/16/26

South Carolina State has banked more league wins at 4–3, and it gets the rematch at home after winning 74–72 on January 12. Coppin State is buried at 4–21, but it has two straight conference wins and palpable belief. This isn’t a track meet by identity either, with 70.7 possessions per game for South Carolina State and 68.8 for Coppin. That mid-tempo pool is why the number sits at -4.5 and the total lives in the low-140s. Splitswise, the crowd loading the favorite and leaning under. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Boston University Terriers and the Colgate Raiders.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

BU vs. Colgate prediction, preview

BU’s offensive profile is loud enough to justify the mid-140s total on its own. It’s scoring 76.2 points per game while shooting 48.8% from the field. It’s also launched 659 threes on the season, which bakes variance into every five-minute segment. The essential swing is the three-point base, because 39.0% as a team forces you to guard air. BU also hits 71.9% at the line, so empty possessions are the only reliable way the scoring cools. Colgate’s edge is that it plays like a veteran favorite, even when it isn’t blowing people out. A 53.5% effective field goal rate with a 13.4% turnover rate is how you travel without giving the game away. Colgate also keeps the game out of whistle chaos with a 0.237 FTA/FGA profile, which matters in a tight road spread. And when your opponent eFG allowed sits at 51.2%, you can survive the stretches where both teams miss. This matchup is basically BU’s shot-making against Colgate’s steadier shot quality and mistake control.

The late-game creators tilt me toward the road side, because Colgate has multiple ways to close. Jalen Cox, guard, puts up 17.2 points per game on 52.6% shooting, and the 82.1% at the line is the closer’s credential. Andrew Alekseyenko, guard, lives in the same zip code, with 14.8 per game and 40.0% from three, so help defense gets punished. Sam Wright, forward, gives them a dependable interior release valve at 12.7 per game on 52.1%, which keeps the offense from becoming all jumpers. Colgate also gets bench production you can trust, sitting at 21.8 bench points per game, which is how short favorites win the bench minutes.

BU can absolutely punch back, because Chance Gladden, guard, and Michael McNair, guard, combine for 34.3 points per game, and both sit basically at 40% from deep. Ben Defty, forward, is the glue, because 12.8 points and 7.0 rebounds on 58.2% finishing stabilizes the non-shooting minutes. And Andrew Bhesania, guard, is the volatility spark, leading the team at a 26.8% usage while sitting at 75.1% true shooting. When that kind of efficiency is on the floor, the game can flip in two minutes.

Colgate vs. BU pick, best bet

BU is playing its best basketball right now, and the results are stacking. The streak includes an 82-69 win over Bucknell and an 85-68 win at Army, which is real two-way comfort. It also includes a 78-69 win over Loyola and a 72-64 win at Holy Cross, which is the profile of a team stacking stops late. Home matters, too, because BU is 7-5 in its building and 4-10 away, and that split usually shows up in shot confidence. There’s also a defensive tell in the season-long numbers, because BU has allowed opponents to shoot 47.0% from the field, which can punish you if the threes don’t bury the game. The other side of the spot is Colgate’s composure, because it just won at Navy 73-65, which is exactly the kind of road control you want from a short favorite. The market is also clearly leaning Raiders, with 72% of moneyline tickets and 64% of spread tickets on Colgate in your screen. That’s not a reason to fade it by itself, but it does mean you need a clean, repeatable story for why the favorite still covers. For me, that story is Colgate’s ball security plus BU’s reliance on perimeter volume, because BU is taking 659 threes on the season, and that’s a lot of variance to bet your cover on.

I’m playing Colgate -2.5 (-105), and I’m playable to -3.5. I trust the Raiders to win the possession battle without needing a shooting miracle, because their scoring sources travel. They’re getting 30.7 points in the paint and 21.8 bench points per game, which is how you steal margin in a loud gym. They also aren’t donating extra chances, allowing only 8.0 second-chance points per game, so BU has to earn its points the hard way.

I’ve got it Colgate 75, BU 71.

Best bet: Colgate -2.5 (-105) at BU
