That’s right, whether you’re looking for something to rock on the street or on the hardwood, this is a time where brands break out the big guns. To celebrate, I thought I would take a look at some of my favorite drops happening during All-Star Weekend.

Adidas Anthony Edwards 2

  • Release Date: February 12

Anthony Edwards’ first signature sneaker was one of the few recent hoops shoes to breakthrough in a big way, making its way onto many sneaker of the year lists in 2024 (including my own) because of its on-court performance and buzz-worthy ad campaign. Adidas wisely let the Anthony Edwards 1 ride that wave, waiting until this fall to introduce the Anthony Edwards 2.

The Anthony Edwards 2 Shoes are your ultimate ally when you step onto the court. Designed for performance basketball, these shoes are crafted to support your every move with precision and comfort.

Featuring Lightstrike cushioning and a textile and synthetic upper that is designed to provide durability and breathability, this vibrant orange colorway harkens back to the days when All-Star colorways gave players an opportunity to break away from traditional team colors and offer up some personality. That isn’t needed as much today, but these All-Star Anthony Edwards 2s certainly won’t fade into the background, either on the court or off. And at $130, they’re they most affordable option on this list.

Nike Kobe 6 Protro 3D

Despite first releasing in 2010, the Kobe 6, now in its protro form, accounted for five of the top six sneakers in terms of minutes played in the NBA last month, according to KixStats.com. The Kobe line really helped usher in a new era of performance basketball shoes — starting with the Kobe 4, which introduced low-top hoops sneakers into the mainstream. But it was the Kobe 6 which has most endured and caught the attention of future generations.

Designed by the legendary Eric Avar, this Kobe 6 Protro 3D celebrates the All-Star Game’s return to Los Angeles and Nike notes that it has been “remastered for the big screen and for your game.” Like all Kobe Protros, this model has updated the tech, including an “Air Zoom Turbo unit in the forefoot and low-profile traction for improved court-feel and quickness.” It also features a “stereoscopic” snakeskin upper and a pair of 3D glasses which SNKRS notes will make said upper really pop.

Throw in mismatched heel counters and Swooshes, a translucent outsole and special 3D branding on the back of the tongue, and I’d say you have what is sure to be one of the biggest hits of All-Star Weekend.

Air Jordan 6 ‘Infrared Salesman’

The Air Jordan 6 is the shoe Michael Jordan won his first title in (and my No. 5 favorite Air Jordan of all-time), so it will always hold a special place in the Jordan pantheon. This edition of the Air Jordan 6 plays off the story of its first retro release in 1999:

This colorway, once known as the “Infrared Salesman Sample” from a ’99 sample catalogue, flips a Jordan classic on its head with reversed accents on the midsole and bright Light Crimson branding on the heel. A sample tag and “Not For Resale” stamp on the inner collar complete the story.

Now, at the time people would have likely lamented the changes made in this infamous sample had it actually gone into production, so it’s good that the first Air Jordan 6 retro stayed true to the original. But now? People actually seem pretty excited by the changes, especially the Nike Air branding appearing in infrared as opposed to the traditional black matching the black upper. This release has the potential to be this year’s Air Jordan 5 Black Metallic Reimagined, a GR model that exceeded all expectations.

Air Jordan 6 ‘Bin 23’ Off Noir

If the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared Salesman” is for the masses, the Air Jordan 6 “Bin 23” is the premium upgrade designed for those looking for a premium take on the classic sneaker.

Jordan Brand first introduced the Bin 23 line, then dubbed Bin 23 Premio, in 2010, dropping special high-end editions of the Air Jordan 2, Air Jordan 7, Air Jordan 9 and Air Jordan 13. Like these 2010 drops, the Bin 23 6s feature a distinctive red wax seal on the heel where Nike Air branding would traditionally appear and will sport “premium” Off Noir leather.

In addition to elevated materials, the Bin 23 6s will feature an elevated presentation, including a dust bag, shoe trees and an updated retro card to “tell the story of Bin 23.” Jordan fans have long clamored for the return of retro cards, so I hope this return will extend beyond just this ultra-expensive and ultra-limited release. Jordan brand says “this one’s for the ballers” and I guess that they may mean that in more ways than one. I won’t be picking these up, but there’s no denying their beauty.

UNION x Fragment x Air Jordan 1

The original Union Air Jordan 1 collab from 2018 remains one of the most beloved modern collabs in sneaker history, still commanding an average price of $1,655 over the last three months. Now Chris Gibbs is back, teaming up with Fragment’s Hiroshi Fujiwara on a new edition of the sneaker that started modern sneaker culture as we know it.

The Air Jordan 1 might not be at its peak popularity, nor even on the rise as it was when the first Union Air Jordan 1 collab dropped eight years ago, but bringing Union and Fragment together should make this drop one of the most hyped and popular of the year. The collab will drop, along with a clothing capsule, on a special site on February 14 and you can sign up for email updates now.

Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 “All-Star Weekend”

Like the Kobe 6 Protro above, the Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 “All-Star” pays homage to Kobe Bryant and a previous NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles, this time from 2004.

The Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 is the spiritual predecessor to Kobe’s signature line with Nike, no surprise since it was also designed by longtime Kobe designer Avar. While serving as a successor to the Huarache line of the early 1990s, the 2K4 drove the design forward while looking toward the future.

This exact colorway was laced up by Bryant in the 2004 All-Star Game, which Nike references through the game’s “2-15-2004” date on the inner collar of the shoe as well as the “LA” icon on the lateral side of each shoe. Nike notes that the model features a “throwback, high-top style” that will help you stand out, and it will come with special packaging and an exclusive dust bag. If you grew up watching college and NBA hoops in the early 2000s these will definitely bring back memories and could have you reaching for your wallet, even if the modern $210 price hits a little harder (and higher) than it did in the aughts.
