BYU vs. Baylor College Basketball prediction, preview
BYU enters Tuesday on a brutal slide, losing four games in a row and five of its last six overall. The Cougars have been underdogs in four of those losses, though, facing Texas Tech, Kansas, Arizona and Houston. The concerning loss came last Wednesday at Oklahoma State, when the Cougars lost as a favorite for the only time this season.
Now the Cougs are favored again, going on the road against a Baylor team that’s mostly struggled against better competition. Baylor is just 3-8 over its last 11 games, all coming against Big 12 competition. The Bears have wins over Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Colorado. They also lost at home to Texas Tech, Houston and Iowa State, all by double digits.
A big part of the reason for all of Baylor’s struggles have come on the defensive side of the ball, where it ranks 88th on KenPom. BYU remains elite offensively, ranking 11th on KenPom, and should have no trouble scoring in this game. While the Cougars aren’t elite defensively, they are a good rebounding team, particularly on the offensive glass. The Bears have not been good rebounding the ball, which I expect to lead to more possessions for BYU.
If BYU can control the glass in this game, it will only give the offense more chances to score on Baylor’s poor defense. I expect that to be the key to the Cougars having a breakout game and getting back on track.
CBB Pick: BYU -3 (-110)
