Following football season’s grand finale, the spotlight shifts back to the hardwood. The Miami Heat are set to host the Utah Jazz at the Kaseya Center as part of the NBA’s jam-packed Monday night slate.
The Jazz (16–37, 13th West) have dropped 18 of their last 22 games but could be looking to turn things around after taking a big swing ahead of last week’s trade deadline. The Heat (28–26, 8th East), who stood pat at the deadline, have lost five of their last 10 games and are playing the second night of a back-to-back — though they rolled to a 147–116 decimation of the Jazz on Jan. 24 in Salt Lake City.

Jaren Jackson Jr. made his Jazz debut Saturday night in Orlando following Utah’s unexpected splurge ahead of the trade deadline. For a while, it looked like the gamble was paying off. Behind Jackson and Lauri Markkanen, the Jazz amassed a comfortable 17-point cushion late in the third quarter.
Then a curious thing happened: Utah benched its starters for the entire fourth quarter, opening the door for the Magic to storm back and steal the game.
Call it what you will — but no matter how you spin it, that’s not winning basketball. Already saddled with the NBA’s worst defense, the Jazz aren’t doing themselves any favors. And with standout point guard Keyonte George sidelined Monday night by yet another ankle injury, the usually fast-paced Jazz could struggle to keep up with the blazing Heat.

To the chagrin of the Miami faithful, the Heat were one of just three teams to strike zero deals ahead of the trade deadline, sitting idle after missing out on Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The team returns home for the second night of a back-to-back, having split its last 10 games. Still, Sunday’s rout of the Wizards in D.C. marked Miami’s third win by 30-plus points during that span — including a 147–116 annihilation in Utah.
While the Heat have battled injuries throughout the season — primarily Tyler Herro (Out) — they have maintained a high-octane offense, fueled by a relentless pace. Miami also sits fourth in defensive rating, anchored by star big man Bam Adebayo (Probable).
Jazz vs. Heat Pick, Best Bet
Miami’s injury list could grow before tip-off, with the team playing the second night of a back-to-back. Even so, the Heat should take care of business against an equally shorthanded Utah team with questionable motivation.
Miami beat the Jazz by 31 points on the road earlier this season. Expect the Heat to cover once again at home on Monday night.
