This is a difficult matchup to gauge because both teams feature elite offenses and defenses. It truly could go either way, and the playoffs haven’t given bettors much clarity either. Let’s break it down.
The Seahawks have been explosive in the playoffs, scoring 41 points against the 49ers and 31 against the Rams. Part of this is due to both NFC West foes having mediocre (or injured) defenses.
Another factor was that Seattle’s defense and special teams balled out in the Divisional Round—this allowed the offense to generate only 281 yards in a 41-point performance. When faced with the Rams’ NFL-best offense, the Seahawks put forth 396 total offensive yards.
Now the Seahawks face a stout New England defense, which is a change from the previous two postseason games. The Patriots will likely slow the Seahawks down, making each offensive possession mean so much more.
New England’s defense has shown up in its three playoff games, limiting the Chargers to three points, Texans to 16 points and Broncos to seven. This could be an indication of more to come in the Super Bowl, but the Chargers and Texans struggled offensively through the year, and the Broncos were without Bo Nix. Additionally, weather played a role in two of these games, making offense hard to come by.
