There have been several memorable non-QB touchdown passes in Super Bowl history. In the Super Bowl, there are often plays broken out that have not been seen before. Some offensive coaches wait all season to use some plays in their playbook so they aren’t on tape. Here are some of the best of all time:
There is no more iconic non-qb touchdown pass than the Philly Special. The Eagles needed to be as aggressive as possible to defeat the Patriots’ dynasty. This was an incredible play that propelled the Eagles to victory, with Nick Foles catching the touchdown pass from Trey Burton.
Antwaan Randle El became the first wide receiver in NFL history to throw a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl in Super Bowl XL. Randle El was a college quarterback, so he was used in trick plays like this a few times in his NFL career. However, making this perfect of a throw that deep down the field was incredibly impressive.
One of the original trick plays on the big stage was by the Cowboys in the Ice Bowl, which was actually the NFL Championship Game at the time, not the Super Bowl. Dan Reeves’ halfback pass to Lance Rentzel caught the Packers completely off guard and ended up being a walk-in touchdown.

There are several ways for this bet to win. There could be a trick play like any of the ones listed above. However, this could also just come from a third quarterback attempting a pass. Whether a quarterback gets injured, even for a couple of plays, or the game is a blowout and the backup gets a chance, this could hit. This has been a growing trend in recent Super Bowls.
This bet has hit in five of the past nine Super Bowls, so getting it at odds of +160 is a great price if that trend of regularity continues. Last year, the bet cashed on Kenny Pickett attempting a pass after entering the game in garbage time for the Eagles. In the rest of the games, Jauan Jennings, Joe Mixon, Trey Burton, Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Cooper Kupp all attempted passes. Jennings, Mixon and Burton’s passes all resulted in touchdowns. So, in three of the past nine Super Bowls, a non-QB has thrown a touchdown pass.
Looking at this year’s matchup specifically, there are a couple of important things to note. Current Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was the OC for the Patriots in both Super Bowl LI and LII. In both of those Super Bowls, the Patriots had a wide receiver attempt a pass. McDaniels was also on the losing end of the Super Bowl against the Philly Special, so he knows how impactful these trick plays can be. Also, Cooper Kupp, who is now a Seahawk, threw a pass for the Rams in Super Bowl LVI. While he has always played wide receiver, Kupp is the son of an NFL quarterback and knows how to pull off a trick play where he throws a pass.
