Why DeMarcus Lawrence will sack Drake Maye in Super Bowl 60

The Super Bowl kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET in Santa Clara, California, between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.

Seattle is a 4.5-point favorite and is -230 on the Moneyline, while New England is +190 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at 45.5 points.

Here is my top DeMarcus Lawrence prop bet for the Super Bowl.

Patriots Offense vs. Seahawks Defense Preview

The Seahawks’ defense is a formidable force for any opponent. Seattle finished the regular season leading the NFL in defensive EPA/play. They are elite against the pass and the run, with a great ability to get after the quarterback. Seattle had 47 regular-season sacks, tied for the seventh-most in the league. Seattle also ranked seventh in the league in pass rush win rate. They have a great collection of pass rushers, with DeMarcus Lawrence and Uchenna Nwosu on the outside, paired with Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II on the interior. That group should be able to get after Drake Maye and cause issues.

The Patriots’ offensive line is vastly improved from last season’s unit, which was one of the worst in the league. There are still flaws on that line, and all eyes will be on rookie left tackle Will Campbell, who has struggled in the postseason. However, more than anything, Drake Maye takes far too many sacks for the amount he gets pressured. The Patriots finished the regular season 13th in the NFL in pass block win rate, but they ranked 26th in sacks allowed. That indicates a quarterback problem when it comes to sack avoidance. Drake Maye has been spectacular this season, but he ranks 30th among qualified quarterbacks in pressure-to-sack ratio. This could be a major problem for New England against the dominant Seattle defensive line.

Best DeMarcus Lawrence Prop Bet

My best bet to record a sack in this game is on DeMarcus Lawrence. The veteran came over to Seattle prior to this season after more than a decade with the Cowboys. Lawrence proved that he still has the juice, recording six sacks during the regular season and playing a key role on this elite defense. Lawrence has stepped up in the postseason as he looks to win a Super Bowl ring to cap off a great career. He has recorded a sack in both postseason games for Seattle so far and seems poised to record another in the Super Bowl.

Lawrence will primarily be lined up across left tackle Will Campbell, who has struggled in the postseason. Odafe Oweh of the Chargers recorded three sacks in the Wildcard Round, rushing off that edge. Similarly, Texans superstar Will Anderson Jr. also recorded three sacks against New England, primarily rushing against Campbell. The Denver defense picked up sacks from all over the defense and made it three straight playoff games that the Patriots had given up five sacks. Those numbers are atrocious, and Seattle should be able to generate just as much pressure as those teams did, which means trouble for Drake Maye.

DeMarcus Lawrence has waited a long time to play in the Super Bowl. At his age, the two weeks off before this game will have been a massive help to have his body as ready as possible. Lawrence should have some tricks up his sleeve that the rookie Will Campbell will not be ready for. Drake Maye has shown that he will hang in and take the sack, rather than getting the ball out, especially when the rush is coming from his blind side. Lawrence should make it three straight playoff games with a sack and even has a chance to force a fumble and create a game-changing play off the edge.

Best Bet: DeMarcus Lawrence 1+ Sacks (+114)
