It’s anyone’s guess as to how Super Bowl LX will unfold on Sunday. That’s cold comfort for those looking to put down a few wagers on DraftKings Sportsbook. With that being said, history could serve as a helpful guide this weekend.

Football has changed quite a bit over the last ten years or so. Still, understanding the past is the best way to grapple with the future. With so much uncertainty, let’s break down a few notable trends to keep an eye on before the Super Bowl.

  • The underdog has covered against the spread (ATS) in each of the last five Super Bowls. New England’s +4.5 spread is currently the largest mark since the Bengals (also +4.5) in Super Bowl LVI.
  • Five of the last seven Super Bowl point totals have gone under. However, two of the last three have gone over. Important to note: the Chiefs represented the AFC in all three of those games.
  • At least one team has scored 30+ points in six of the previous ten Super Bowls. Three teams have scored ten or fewer points during that time (’15 CAR, ’18 LAR, ’20 KC).
  • Over the last ten Super Bowls, the ’21 Rams are the only team that won while failing to cover.
  • The current total of 45.5 is the lowest since 2015’s 43-point over/under (CAR vs. DEN).
  • Since 2000, favorites of 4.5 or more points are 1-10 ATS.
  • The last 16 teams that played on Wild Card Weekend against opponents that had a first-round bye are 14-1-1 ATS.
  • This is the tenth Super Bowl rematch in NFL history. Winners of the first game are 6-3 the second time around.
  • NFC teams are just 4-9 ATS over the last 13 Super Bowls.
  • The last time an AFC team without Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes won a championship? Super Bowl 50, when Peyton Manning’s Broncos defeated the Panthers. The location of that game was Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium, which is also hosting this weekend.
  • As a favorite, the Seahawks are 12-4 ATS. However, they’ve only gone 7-4 ATS when playing an opponent with equal rest.
  • During nine games away from home for Seattle, the under has cashed five times.
  • When playing on the road, the Hawks are 8-1 ATS.
  • Seattle has posted an NFL-best +12.1 average scoring margin. The Patriots rank second (+9.9).
  • The Seahawks went 3-2 ATS against AFC teams this season.
  • As an underdog, New England is 4-2 ATS.
  • Following a win, the Patriots are 10-5-1 ATS. The team is coming off of a 10-7 AFC Championship Game victory in Denver.
  • New England has won all nine of its away games this season.
  • The Pats typically get off to a hot start, going 14-5-1 ATS during the first half.
  • During the six games in which New England was an underdog, the over has gone 4-2 ATS.
  • The Patriots went 4-1 ATS against NFC teams this season.
