Seahawks vs. Patriots Super Bowl 2026 Preview

Seattle Seahawks (-4.5 Spread on DraftKings Predictions)

It was a special season for the Seahawks from the jump. This was expected to be a bit of a rebuilding season for the Seahawks. Prior to the 2024-25 season, Seattle parted ways with longtime head coach Pete Carroll. Despite a solid 10-7 first season at the helm for Mike Macdonald, the Seahawks narrowly missed out on the postseason. They decided it was also time to part with starting quarterback Geno Smith and pay up for free agent Sam Darnold. That was a questionable move at the time because Smith played well for the Seahawks, and it was uncertain if Darnold could replicate his success from Minnesota the year prior.

The Seahawks exceeded all expectations, winning 14 regular-season games, winning the loaded NFC West division and clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Darnold was fantastic all season and the Seahawks had the NFLโ€™s leading receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba. As good as that passing attack was, this team rode its defense to the Super Bowl. During the regular season, Seattle led the NFL in defensive EPA/play and scoring defense. It had to take down two division opponents in the playoffs, which is always a difficult task. Seattle has a well-rounded group that is ready for Super Bowl LX.

New England Patriots (+4.5 Spread on DraftKings Predictions)

Just like the Seahawks, the Patriots exceeded all expectations this season. Mike Vrabel was in his first year as head coach, and Drake Maye was entering his first full season as the starter. After the Patriots lost to the Raiders in Week 1, there were concerns that it would be another rough year in New England. However, the Patriots flipped a switch and ended up stealing the AFC East back from the Bills. New England was criticized for its easy schedule, both in the regular season and the postseason, but winning 14 games and making a Super Bowl is not something a team can do if it isnโ€™t great.

Maye proved all season that he is already one of the NFLโ€™s best quarterbacks. He is a deserving MVP contender and led all quarterbacks in EPA+CPOE composite this season. Both by EPA/play and success rate, New England had the best passing attack in the NFL this season. It should make for a great matchup against the Seahawksโ€™ elite pass defense. New England also had a strong defense of its own, ranking fourth in scoring defense and sixth in rushing defense.

Super Bowl 60 Key Stats and Info

This was an incredibly unlikely Super Bowl matchup. This is the first Super Bowl matchup since 2003 where both teams missed the playoffs the year prior. If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, they will be the biggest preseason longshot Super Bowl champions since the 1999 Rams.

The Patriots are 4.5-point underdogs, and underdogs have thrived in recent years at the Super Bowl. Since 2004, underdogs are 15-7 against the spread. Underdogs have also won four of the past five Super Bowls outright.

The spread is often close in the Super Bowl, which is a factor in this stat, but the winner of the Super Bowl almost always covers the spread. Super Bowl winners are 50-7-2 (88%) against the spread all-time.

Strength of schedule is a big talking point around this Super Bowl. According to strength of schedule rankings, Seattle had the fourth-hardest schedule this season, while the Patriots had the easiest schedule in the NFL. By PFRโ€™s rating system, the Patriots had the third-easiest schedule of any team to ever make a Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, only 11 teams in Super Bowl history had a harder path to the Super Bowl than the Seahawks. Those teams went 8-3 in the Super Bowl. This is the highest gap in strength of schedule between two Super Bowl teams since the Colts and the Cowboys in Super Bowl V.

This should be a fantastic game between two teams that seem set up to be contenders over the next few years in the NFL. New England is looking to reassert itself as the powerhouse in the NFL once again, while Seattle is looking for revenge from its Super Bowl loss to the Patriots in 2015.
