Will the USA win the most gold medals at the 2026 Winter Olympics?

This week sees the start of the Winter Olympics once again. After an electric 2022 Games in Beijing, we’re heading to Milan and Cortina in Italy for another action-packed competition. Is this the year where Team USA can take home the most gold medals?

In the 2022 Games, Team USA was tied with China for fourth with nine gold medals. They finished behind Germany (12) and Norway, who pulled in an Olympic record 16 gold medals as a country. The opening odds on the DraftKings Sportsbook to pull in the most golds reflects that top three from 2022:

It’s been nearly 100 years since the USA claimed the most gold medals in the Games. Currently, the USA is favored to win gold in nine events. No country has led the Olympics with single-digit gold medals since 1984, which means some upsets will likely be needed for the USA to pull ahead. Norway’s monopoly over skiing events (it’s not called Nordic by accident!) gives them a huge leg up.

Will this finally be the year the USA pulls it off? We don’t have to wait long to find out.
