San Diego State Aztecs vs. Wyoming Cowboys prediction, pick for NCAAM on Tuesday 2/03/26

Indiana Hoosiers are 15–7 overall and 6–5 in the Big Ten Conference, trying to turn a heater into real footing. They just clipped No. 12 Purdue 72–67, then survived a 98–97 double-overtime burner at UCLA, so the legs are heavy but the confidence is real. USC Trojans sit 16–6 and 5–6 in league play, living in the messy middle where one home win changes the whole résumé conversation. They just held off Rutgers 78–75, and that kind of tight finish tells you exactly how they prefer to win. Galen Center at ten p.m. Eastern isn’t a vibes game; it’s a composure exam, and both sides know it. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the San Diego State Aztecs and the Wyoming Cowboys.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

San Diego State vs. Wyoming prediction, preview

Wyoming wants to drag possessions, then make the game live on threes and second shots. The Cowboys are launching 528 threes on 1,280 field-goal attempts, so the profile really is volume-first from deep, and the rebounding margin is plus-6.2 per game. But San Diego State’s edge is how many “empty” trips it manufactures—opponents are turning it over on 18.4% of plays, and the Aztecs are holding teams to a 48.0% effective field-goal rate. That combination is how double-digits gets covered without a shooting miracle: fewer clean looks, more giveaways, more free points in transition.

The player story reads like a lineup of stabilizers on one side, and a narrow creation tree on the other. Reese Dixon-Waters is the steady shot-maker at 11.9 per game with 87.0% at the stripe, and Miles Byrd brings the two-way teeth—10.8 per game, plus a steal rate that shows up in the team’s turnover pressure. BJ Davis quietly juices the spacing at 39.7% from three and 86.7% from the line, which matters in late-clock possessions when a favorite is trying to extend margin. Wyoming’s offense is far more concentrated: Leland Walker is the engine at 15.3 points and 3.6 assists per game with 83.7% free throws, and Nasir Meyer supplies the cleanest secondary scoring at 13.2 per game while shooting 39.5% from three. The issue is what happens when those touches get pushed a step farther from their comfort—Wyoming can rebound, but it still has to start possessions cleanly against this kind of ball pressure.

Wyoming vs. San Diego State pick, best bet

Wyoming will try to slow, and the backdoor door is open if threes pile up. San Diego State even concedes the attempt profile—opponents are taking 28.2 threes per game—so a hot night can warp a spread in a hurry. Wyoming also just posted a 68–57 win over Colorado State, so the confidence isn’t fictional. The refutation is that the same recent sample shows the floor: the Cowboys got buried 94–62 at Utah State, and that’s what happens when the first wave doesn’t land and the game turns into repeated half-court possessions versus a set defense. San Diego State’s defense is built to force those “second decisions,” and the turnover lane is the cleanest margin-builder on the entire board.

So I’m laying it. Wyoming’s cover path needs three things at once—possession drag, a real three-point spike, and enough clean entries to keep Walker from living in late-clock rescue mode. San Diego State already won 74–57 in Laramie, and the recent league form still says the Aztecs can dictate the texture: win the turnover battle, defend without scrambling, and let the scoreboard pressure do the rest. The number is big, but the matchup explains how it gets there.

San Diego State -12.5 (-105). I expect a game that feels close for ten minutes, then stretches on empty Wyoming trips and free throws. Predicted score: San Diego State 77, Wyoming 61.

Best bet: San Diego State -12.5 (-105) vs. Wyoming
