After a shock 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the Round of 16, second division Albacete have earned themselves a spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. The draw for them didn’t get any easier, as this time they will face another Spanish giant in Barcelona. The La Liga leaders are huge favorites to win this one for obvious reasons, and I think they’ll do just that.
Barca are 30 spots ahead of their opponents in the Spanish football pyramid, and should coast to a dominant victory here. Just because Real Madrid were upset in shocking fashion doesn’t mean it will happen to Barca. They lead La Liga in points and in goals scored. They have netted 60 times in 22 matches, an average of just over 2.7 goals per game. On the flip side, Albacete have conceded 34 times in 24 games, with only four teams in La Liga 2 allowing more goals.
This is the best attack in Spain against one of the worst defenses in the second division. Albacete had an incredible upset in the Round of 16, one of their best results in club history. The fun stops here, unfortunately, as Barca should and will dispatch of them with ease.
