“The Hangman” came close in November, riding a three-fight win streak into a No. 1 contender bout with Arman Tsarukyan. But a second-round submission loss seemingly left the aging New Zealander with one final run at the 155-pound crown.
Still, Hooker remains one of the division’s most dangerous brawlers, averaging 4.89 significant strikes per minute at 48% accuracy and never shying away from a good old-fashioned slugfest. It’s all in the nickname. Dubbed the “God of War,” the 30-year-old Benoit Saint Denis is a 155-pound bulldozer. The French southpaw, who made his UFC debut in Oct. 2021, boasts a 100% finish rate comprising five knockouts and 11 submissions.
Saint Denis rebounded from a miserable 2024 with three straight wins in 2025, opening the run with a pair of second-round submission victories against Kyle Prepolec and promising newcomer Mauricio Ruffy. In November, he capped the surge by starching Beneil Dariush in just 16 seconds — tied for the sixth-fastest finish in division history.
Saint Denis thrives in chaos, and he ambushes his opponents with unrelenting pressure. He blends standout striking with elite grappling, landing 5.07 significant strikes per minute, while also averaging over four takedowns per three-round bout — always threatening with constant submission attempts.
Hooker vs. Saint Denis Pick, Best Bet
While fortune favors the bold, it’s typically not a good idea to get locked in a cage with the “God of War.” Hooker won’t cower away from a slugfest, but Saint Denis should outmatch him on the feet and suffocate him with relentless grappling.
