Utah Jazz star Keyonte George suffered an ankle injury during Friday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets and will not return.
In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, George appeared to twist an ankle after getting tangled up with an opponent. He limped back to the locker room immediately after. He was subsequently ruled out for the game’s end.
George played 32 minutes on Friday night, posting 26 points, seven assists and three rebounds. Notably, he shot 9-for-11 from the field and 7-for-10 from the charity stripe, marking an incredibly efficient night in the scoring column.
In the event George misses time, the Jazz could deploy Isaiah Collier in the starting lineup. The playmaking guard wouldn’t provide the same scoring pop, but he would be able to distribute the ball well for this Jazz rotation.
George, 22 years old, has excelled in his third professional season. The young guard averages a career-best 24.1 points, 6.6 assists and 4.0 rebounds, also shooting a career-high 45.4% from the field and 37.8% from three. He’s emerged as a legitimate star for this rebuilding roster and looks every part of a foundational piece.
The Jazz went on to lose Friday’s game to the Nets in a 107-99 final. With the loss, Utah now falls to 15-34 on the campaign.
