Just as it seemed like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was getting underway, the second Game of Thrones prequel series is about to reach its season midpoint. Gone are the world-ending stakes of the main show and House of the Dragon. Instead, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is sticking much closer to the tone of the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, smaller-scale stories from George R.R. Martin.
If you are looking to keep up with HBO’s latest fantasy series, here is everything you need to know before the third episode hits the airwaves:
When does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms come out?
Like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon and most other major HBO titles, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will release one episode a week. There will only be six episodes in season 1, but the network already renewed the show for season 2 set to premiere in 2027.
Season 1, episode 3 will drop on Sunday, February 1 at 9 p.m. ET. The episode, titled “The Squire” is expected to have a runtime around 31 minutes, with the following three episodes also coming in between 31 and 37 minutes.

Who will show up in episode 3?
The smaller scope and shorter runtime of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are going to limit how many characters we meet on a week-to-week basis. Dunk has already run into several people from major houses in the first two episodes, though, building out a main cast that should continue to appear moving forward. What to expect in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 3
Dunk tried and failed to earn a sponsor for the tourney at Ashford Meadow, pleading his case to lord after lord who did not remember Ser Arlan serving under them. That’s when the Targaryens arrived, spooking Egg back to camp while Dunk pushed on. After a run-in with Prince Aerion and the Kingsguard, Dunk snuck into Lord Ashford’s quarters to speak to Prince Baelor. Unlike the rest of the lords, Baelor gave Dunk some grace and approved of his entry into the tournament. Dunk had to design his own sigil and sell one of Ser Arlan’s horses in order to buy some armor, but he is officially tourney-bound.
Based on the sneak peak for next week, Dunk is going to need to select an opponent for the joust. It seems like he has his sights set on Prince Aerion, but Raymun Fossoway advises him against it. Raymun also lists off all the reasons he thinks the Targaryens are bad and cruel, which could lead to a deeper exploration of the Blackfyre Rebellion that happened 13 years earlier. Dunk also owes a lot to Prince Baelor, so he might not be as willing to accept any anti-Targaryen narratives at this point. At the same time, Aerion didn’t treat Dunk too kindly and one of the missing princes, Daeron, seems to have had a foreboding dream about the hedge knight.
So far, the show has followed The Hedge Knight novella pretty closely, outside of how early Ser Leonel made an appearance and how Dunk found himself addressing Prince Baelor. So for any book-readers out there, not every scene is going to be pulled word-for-word from the novella.
