In the NBA’s Western Conference on Wednesday night, the Dallas Mavericks host the Minnesota Timberwolves. While these teams are on opposite sides of the spectrum as one works to get over the postseason hump and the other remains in the early stages of a rebuild, there’s plenty of intrigue as Anthony Edwards takes on a fellow No. 1 pick, Cooper Flagg.

Anthony Edwards over 3.5 made threes (+131)
This has been one of my favorite props over the last week, and until it stops hitting, I’m not looking elsewhere. Anthony Edwards is in the midst of the best scoring season of his career with 29.7 PPG on 49.9%/41.0%/79.3% shooting splits. The 24-year-old superstar keeps pouring on the points on a nightly basis, dropping 30+ in three of his last four outings… one of which was a 55-ball on January 17. While he missed the Timberwolves’ most recent game against the Warriors due to injury management for a lingering toe issue, he’s back in the lineup tonight and should be a full-go against a 19-27 Mavericks unit.
This month, Edwards is on an absolute scorcher. In 10 contests, he’s hit 41 of his 93 three-point attempts, an average of 4.1 makes per game while connecting on those shots at a 44.1% rate. Looking towards his recent stat lines, he’s knocked down at least four three-pointers in three of his last four outings and seven of his last nine. In January as a whole, he’s gone over tonight’s line in seven of 10 total chances.
There is admittedly a little bit of risk involved tonight. Dallas is far from a good basketball team at the moment, and one may think that means it has one of the league’s worst defenses. While the Mavericks do sit 21st in PPG allowed at 116.5, they’re actually quite strong against long-range shots. This team holds opponents to only a 33.1% mark from beyond the arc, the NBA’s lowest, and gives up just 11.8 made threes per game (second-fewest) on 35.7 attempts (seventh).
That does make me hesitate for a moment, but only slightly. The Mavericks are still quite decimated on the injury report with talent like Anthony Davis, Dante Exum and Dereck Lively II all sidelined for various periods of time, and Cooper Flagg and Klay Thompson are both questionable. With the Timberwolves beginning to break out of a recent slump and already possessing a far more capable rotation, this game has blowout written all over it. Given his recent hot streak, Edwards should get his numbers tonight and knock in at least four threes before hitting the bench early.
