Just like last season, it’s been another miserable domestic campaign for Tottenham while they flourish in Europe. It doesn’t make a ton of sense as to why, but here we are. Spurs are 14th in the Premier League, only eight points ahead of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, things are going swimmingly in the Champions League. They have won four, drawn two and lost one of their seven league phase games and sit in fifth position in the table with 14 points. A win on Wednesday would guarantee them a top-eight finish and a spot in the Round of 16. It’s an eerily similar campaign to last season, when they finished 17th in the Premier League but won the Europa League under former manager Ange Postecoglou.
On the other hand, it’s been a disastrous European campaign for Eintracht Frankfurt. They have been eliminated from the competition and are only playing for pride on Wednesday night. The German side sit in 33rd place in the table, having only won one of their games, drawing another and losing five.
Frankfurt aren’t exactly flying in their domestic competition either. They sit in eighth place in the Bundesliga right now and are on a major slump in 2026. In all competitions so far in January, they have won none, drawn two and lost three. Their last win came on December 13th, a 1-0 win over FC Augsburg.
I think another loss is on the horizon for Eintracht Frankfurt in this one. Tottenham have a ton of motivation to win, have a great track record in Europe over the last two seasons and have the better team on paper. I like Spurs to come away from this one with a win and book a spot in the Round of 16.
