One of the few meaningless games on Wednesday’s slate sees first-place take on last-place in the Champions League standings. There isn’t anything on the line in this one for either side other than pride, as Arsenal have locked up a top two finish while Kairat have been eliminated.
Even so, we can still make some money on this contest. Expect the Gunners to essentially play their “B” team, although it will still be a strong lineup as they have one of the deepest squads in all of Europe. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 11 changes from the team that started Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Man United. The Gunners should score goals for fun and win this one comfortably, no matter who is out there.
No team has scored more than Arsenal through seven games as they’ve netted 20 times. On the flip side, no team has conceded more times than Kairat Almaty, as they’ve allowed 19 goals. It’s the best attack against the worst defense, and the game will be played at the Emirates. Arsenal have scored four or more goals earlier in the league phase when they dispatched Atlético Madrid 4-0 at home. Kairat have conceded at least four times in three of their seven games, losing 4-1 to Sporting CP, 5-0 to Real Madrid and 4-1 to Club Brugge.
This game is only going to go one way, and the Gunners should be able to score four goals even if they’re in first gear.
