St. Bonaventure Bonnies vs. Saint Louis Billikens prediction, pick for NCAAM on Friday 1/23/26

Saint Louis walks into Olean with a number beside its name and a real conference crown in view. The Billikens are 18-1 overall, 6-0 in the A-10, and they’ve turned twelve straight wins into weekly pressure. St. Bonaventure is 12-7 and 1-5 in league play, sitting in the part of the standings where every home night feels like a reset button. The Reilly Center still has teeth, especially when a ranked team shows up. Saint Louis being No. 24 only sharpens the emotional temperature in the building. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the St. Bonaventure Bonnies and the Saint Louis Billikens.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

St. Bonaventure vs. Saint Louis prediction, preview

This matchup is a tug-of-war between pace and resistance, and the math favors the visitor. Saint Louis plays at 74.7 possessions per game, while St. Bonaventure sits at 69.9, so the first fight is who gets to name the rhythm. Saint Louis owns a 1.203 offensive efficiency that ranks seventh nationally, and it pairs it with a 0.924 defense that ranks twelfth. St. Bonaventure’s defensive profile has leaked all season in plain terms, allowing 46.2% from the field and 33.2% from three. That’s the wrong combination against a team posting a 55.1% “floor %,” which sits 23rd nationally. If the Bonnies can’t change shot quality, they’re chasing points instead of trading stops.

The roster math matters here because Saint Louis can score without playing one style. Robbie Avila (F) is the hub, sitting at 17.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game, and his passing changes how help defenders breathe. Trey Green (G) brings downhill creation at 14.1 points per game, while Gibson Jimerson (G) stretches the court at 11.2. Saint Louis just showed its composure in the Duquesne win, 81-77, with Avila finishing with 14 points, five rebounds, and six assists. St. Bonaventure’s answer starts with Lajae Jones (G), who matches Avila at 17.5 per game and carries the creation load at 4.3 assists. Jonah Hinton (F) is the next steady scoring lane at 11.1, and Kevin Grace (G) gives them another perimeter release at 9.5.

Saint Louis vs. St. Bonaventure pick, best bet

The Bonnies’ cover case is real, but it needs specific ingredients to hit. They crash the glass at a 34.4% offensive rebounding rate, 36th nationally, and that’s the easiest way to mint extra possessions in a slower game. Saint Louis also has a ball-security soft spot, turning it over on 18.2% of possessions, which sits way down at 284th. If St. Bonaventure turns missed shots into putbacks and turns loose passes into runway points, the spread gets fragile fast. The pushback is that St. Bonaventure’s defense hasn’t been sturdy enough to survive those mistakes, sitting at 0.986 defensive efficiency, 167th nationally. And St. Bonaventure has been juggling availability, with Ilia Ermakov (ankle) ruled out and other rotation statuses worth tracking close to tip.

Saint Louis -7.5 asks the Billikens to win clean & convincingly on the road, not just win. The total at 158.5 is aggressive if St. Bonaventure drags the pace, but the possession count can still inflate through offensive rebounds and free throws. Saint Louis lives around 21 free throw attempts per game by season profile, which keeps scoring alive when the halfcourt turns into elbows. This spread still feels closer to nine than 7.5, because Saint Louis owns both the offensive ceiling and the defensive floor. The brittleness lives in the hook and in late-game chaos, especially if St. Bonaventure keeps generating second shots.

I expect Saint Louis to lean into spacing and tempo pressure early, because it’s the faster team and the more efficient one. Avila should stay as the touch magnet, because his elbows-to-corners passing forces rotation decisions that Green can punish downhill. St. Bonaventure should answer by making every miss matter, because that 34.4% offensive rebounding rate is its most reliable way to steal possessions. If Saint Louis plays even an average turnover game, the shot-quality gap should widen over forty minutes.

Pick: Saint Louis -7.5. Predicted score: Saint Louis 84, St. Bonaventure 74.

Best bet: Saint Louis -7.5 (-110) at St. Bonaventure
