The Detroit Pistons head to New Orleans tonight for a road game against the Pelicans. Now, the visitors may be without their superstar.
Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham, initially unlisted on the NBA injury report, has been downgraded to questionable for tonight’s game due to an illness.
If Cunningham doesn’t play tonight, the Pistons will need to look elsewhere in the rotation for offensive creation. The team isn’t particularly deep at point guard, but either of Jaden Ivey or Daniss Jenkins could start in the star’s absence. Caris LeVert is also questionable with an illness, potentially depleting the guard rotation further.
Cunningham, 24 years old, was just named an All-Star starter earlier this week. The 6-foot-6 guard averages 25.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and a career-best 9.8 assists per game this season as the driving force behind a resurgent season for his franchise. While his scoring has ticked down to 16 or fewer points in each of his last three games, he’s notched a double-double with assists in two of those contests and continues to orchestrate the offense at an elite level.
The Pistons are 31-10 on the campaign, good for first in the Eastern Conference. They enter as 9.5-point favorites on the road against the Pelicans tonight on DraftKings Sportsbook.
