This week, Netflix released the second season of WWE Unreal. The second season of Unreal featured five episodes detailing behind-the-scenes coverage from WWE throughout the build to SummerSlam in August 2025.
WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque is a key figure in this show, along with many others on the creative team, including Brian “Road Dogg” James, Bruce Prichard, Paul Heyman, and Michael Hayes. During the second season of Unreal, Seth Rollins, R-Truth, Becky Lynch, Penta, Naomi, Chelsea Green, and CM Punk are some of the featured WWE superstars on the show.
Below, I break down my top three takeaways from WWE Unreal.
1. Kayfabe is alive and well
As technology advances, storylines and results can leak in professional wrestling before they air. But during the new season of Unreal, WWE proved multiple times that they have the ability to fool the audience and deliever truley shocking moments. Kayfabe is a common term in professional wrestling, referring to portraying everything as legitimate to the audience.
Over the last few months, there were two major shocking moments in WWE. The first was when R-Truth returned at Money in the Bank on June 7, six days after announcing on social media that his WWE contract had ended.
The second, and biggest, storyline throughout Season 2 of Unreal was Seth Rollins’ fake injury leading to his SummerSlam cash-in. At Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, it appeared that Rollins legitiminley injuried his knee against LA Knight. But in Unreal, Triple H detailed their long process of fooling the audience, culminating in a massive reaction at SummerSlam.
Rollins’ wife, Becky Lynch, was shown throughout the show and discussed being secretive with family and friends while Rollins was selling a fake injury. During the month Rollins was off WWE television, he was seen with crutches in public as everyone still believed he was injured. The best moments in professional wrestling occur when fans are truly stunned and didn’t see it coming.
2. WWE has a big creative process
During this show, WWE gives everyone a look at the process of putting together matches and storylines. This season picks up after WrestleMania and shows how difficult it is to create cards for different events following the biggest show of the year while on the road to SummerSlam. Also, at times, the creative team disagrees, and they showed that more during this season of Unreal.
A specific producer is assigned to each match and coordinates with the wrestlers and referees during the match. But since these matches are airing live, everything doesn’t always go according to plan. They planned a back-and-forth between Knight and Rollins during the final segment of the Money in the Bank match, but the spot didn’t happen.
3. WWE Unreal is helping build new stars
Besides just following WWE behind the scenes leading up to SummerSlam, Unreal did an excellent job of showcasing different sides to superstars who aren’t as well-known. Naomi, Chelsea Green, and Lyria Valkyria are three wrestlers fans learned more about during this show. They showed them at their homes and outside the ring, humanizing them for the WWE audience.
WWE Unreal Season 3 is confirmed
In the final moments of Season 2 of WWE Unreal, they confirmed that the show will return with a new season in Summer 2026. In the Season 3 teaser on Netflix, they showed John Cena in the final months of his retirement tour, as that will likely be the focus of the next season.
