Warriors star Jimmy Butler left Monday night’s game against the Miami Heat with a knee injury. This is the latest injury update on Butler as of Tuesday, 1/20/26.
Jimmy Butler went down with what appeared to be a serious knee injury after going up for a rebound midway through the third quarter against the Heat. Unfortunately, it was reported overnight that Butler tore his ACL on the play.
Jimmy Butler will miss the remainder of the season as he recovers from ACL surgery. This is a big blow to Butler to suffer such a serious injury at 36 years old. It is also a major loss for the Warriors, who currently sit eighth in the Western Conference. Golden State looked like it would comfortably make it into the postseason, but that task is now much tougher with Butler out for the season. He ranked second on the team in scoring with 20 PPG, along with ranking third on the team in both assists and rebounds, all to go along with his great defensive abilities.
For the Warriors, this injury will likely lead to more minutes for the likes of De’Anthony Melton and Moses Moody, among others. Some younger players, like Moody and Will Richard, will need to step up sooner than anticipated and take on a bigger role in the team. Additionally, this puts a big strain on Steph Curry, who was already carrying this team offensively. Now, Curry loses the only other consistent scorer on the team and will be forced to do it all truly on his own.
The Warriors are currently +7000 to win the NBA Finals and -200 to make the NBA Playoffs at DraftKings Sportsbook. So, despite the loss of Butler, they should be able to maintain their spot in the postseason field. However, once in the playoffs, it’s unlikely that the Warriors will be able to make a run with their current roster.
