Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, January 20: Anthony Edwards
This week’s King of the Court slate is an interesting one. There is one clear PRA juggernaut standing out among the pack in Luka Doncic, but the MVP candidate hasn’t been playing up to his standards the last few Tuesdays. Luka has struggled to score lately, failing to hit the 30-point mark three times over his last five outings. The re-emergence of reigning King of the Court LeBron James has been a significant factor as well. While both Doncic and James have a strong chance to claim the crown this week, I’m pivoting in another direction.
Two players who I’m intrigued by are James Harden and Victor Wembanyama. Unfortunately, both will be on the second night of a back-to-back. With Wemby’s minutes restrictions and Harden being 36 years old (and playing the Wizards, setting up a potential rest spot), it’s hard to trust either of those guys.
So, my attention turns to the man who just dropped 55 points a couple days ago. Anthony Edwards has already won the KOTC title once this year, and the recipe to do it again is simple: Score at least 40 points. That’s a feat Ant is more than capable of accomplishing. He’ll be taking on a Utah Jazz side that allows the most points per game, setting the stage for another explosive outing. The last three King of the Court winners have amassed 53 or fewer total PRA. Edwards likely isn’t going to account for more than 12 rebounds and assists, but if he racks up the points, he’ll have a strong chance to claim the crown.
