It is a busy day of NBA basketball, with nine games taking place across the Martin Luther King Jr. Day slate. Several games are already in the books, but there are a few high-profile matchups still set to round out the night.

Tyrese Maxey Over 3.5 Made Three-Pointers (-111)
Tyrese Maxey was named an All-Star starter for the first time in his career on Monday afternoon. He has grown into the focal point of Philadelphia’s offense, even when the team is at full strength. He should garner even more responsibility Monday night with Paul George ruled out on the first half of a back-to-back for the Sixers.
Maxey is leading the NBA in minutes and averaging 30.3 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game. He’s knocking down 3.7 threes per game at an excellent 40.2% clip. The 25-year-old guard has drilled at least four triples in 23 of his 38 games this season.
The Pacers hold a 10-33 record on the season and sit in last place in the Eastern Conference. While they have done a solid job protecting the three-point line, Indiana ranks 24th in opponent points per game. Maxey has one of the quickest first steps in the league, and the threat of his drive constantly opens up perimeter looks.
The star guard is coming off a pair of uncharacteristic shooting performances, as he went just 2-for-8 from beyond the arc in both of his last two matchups. Still, he cleared this line in seven of the 10 games prior and had an additional day of rest to get his legs back under him.
Count on Maxey to lead the charge and pour in at least four treys against an inferior Pacers team as he continues cementing his status as one of the top guards in the league.
Anfernee Simons Over 2.5 Made Three-Pointers (+103)
It hasn’t been a perfect fit for Anfernee Simons since coming to the Boston Celtics. However, the 26-year-old has started to find his stride in recent games. This season, the former Trail Blazers standout is drilling 2.7 threes per game at an outstanding 40.7% rate.
Boston ranks second in the NBA in both attempted and made threes per game and seventh in perimeter efficiency. The Celtics’ outside shooting will be paramount Monday night against a tough Pistons defense with a stingy interior presence. This season, Detroit ranks third in opponent points per game and has held teams to the second-worst field-goal percentage. The Pistons can be vulnerable around the perimeter, however, ranking 13th in made threes allowed.
Simons has shown a better grasp of the Celtics’ offense in recent games, and his role has expanded as a result. He played a season-high 34 minutes earlier this week and eclipsed his average (24.2) in seven of his last ten games. Simons has drilled at least three triples in eight of his last 10 outings, including back-to-back games heading into Monday night.
Count on Simons to remain a central aspect of Boston’s top-tier perimeter attack, and expect him to stay hot by knocking down at least three triples against the Pistons.
Norman Powell Over 2.5 Made Three-Pointers (-122)
The Heat will face the Warriors tonight to close down the nine-game NBA slate. Norman Powell has led this team in scoring all season, and he will see even more responsibility in the Miami offense with Tyler Herro back on the sidelines. Powell is averaging 23.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. The 32-year-old guard is enjoying some newfound basketball freedom, attempting a career-high 7.4 three-point attempts a night and connecting at an impressive 41.4% rate.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Golden State leads the NBA in three-point attempts per game. In Miami’s case, trading two points for three is a losing effort — and the Heat should set up shop from downtown to keep up. Powell should play a starring role in that effort.
Miami should have a clear path to creating clean looks in transition against an aging Warriors squad that has struggled to defend up-tempo teams at times. The Heat boast the fastest pace in the NBA, and they’ve made it a point to play quickly all season.
Powell has surpassed 2.5 threes in 19 of his 36 games played this season. That includes a 4-for-7 explosion from deep against the Warriors on Nov. 19. He’s also cleared the total in six of his last nine outings.
With Herro sidelined, count on Powell to lead the offense and pour in at least three long-range shots on Monday night. It might even be worth backing the UCLA product to knock down four-plus treys at +170 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook, following suit from his last outing against Golden State.
