The Miami Hurricanes have had a Cinderella-type run to this National Championship game. During the regular season, it looked as if Miami had once again squandered a playoff opportunity by losing to inferior teams. Losses to Louisville and SMU left it up to obscure tiebreakers to determine whether or not the program would even make the ACC title game. The Hurricanes missed out on the chance to play their way into the College Football Playoff, but ended up getting the final at-large bid over Notre Dame. It seemed a controversial decision at the time, but Miami has proven itself worthy of that selection by making it to the national title game.
The Hurricanes have ridden their defense to the championship game. They allowed just three points to Texas A&M, held the defending national champions to 14 points, then outdueled Ole Miss in the semifinals. In the National Championship, the Hurricanes face their hardest test yet against Indiana. However, there is a path to victory for Miami to pull off one more upset. Miami will need to lean on its defense, play mistake-free football on offense and control the time of possession with its ground game.
My favorite same-game parlay bet on the Miami Hurricanes is the Miami Moneyline parlayed with the Indiana team total under 28.5 points. If this game turns into a shootout, it’s hard to imagine Indiana losing with its incredible passing offense. Miami needs to hold Indiana under 28.5 points to have a chance at winning this one. If the Hurricanes’ elite pass rush can bother Fernando Mendoza and force a couple of mistakes out of the Heisman winner, they have a real chance to win outright.
Carson Beck is capable of making big throws, as he has proven throughout the CFP. Most importantly, he has not turned the ball over. If he can take care of the football as the offense keeps a steady run-pass balance with halfback Mark Fletcher Jr., Miami can move the ball. The Hurricanes have a great crop of skill position players such as Fletcher and Malachi Toney who can create plays out of nowhere, even against the best of defenses. While they are big underdogs, this is the path to a national title for the Miami Hurricanes.
