Captain’s Pick
Puka Nacua ($18,000 CP): The passing game has changed throughout the eras, making it difficult to compare talent across generations. What would 90s receivers do in a game that favors quarterbacks and wide receivers? That can’t be answered. What can be answered is what Nacua has already done. He caught 129 passes for 1,715 yards despite missing time with an injury. The fifth-round pick in his third season may already be in rare company. Any player in that conversation belongs firmly in the Captain discussion.
UTIL Plays
Matthew Stafford ($10,600): If Nacua is going to the moon, Stafford is riding along. Someone has to throw the ball to Puka. If there’s room, Davante Adams can slide into that rocket ship as well. Adams has devastated single-game slates with ruthless efficiency — he doesn’t need volume. Let Puka grind. The young receiver out of BYU can move the chains and pile up receptions and yardage. Adams takes over when the ball gets close to the end zone. Of his 65 receptions, 14 went for touchdowns. Touchdowns make or break DFS Showdown slates. Those six points from Adams and four from Stafford matter.
Davante Adams ($9,000): See above. This is a Showdown slate. Primetime games often feature good teams that can play defense. Shootouts and massive box scores are not common. Offensive output is capped. Yardage and reception volume don’t mirror a typical Sunday afternoon game because the matchups are tougher. This shifts how fantasy points are accumulated. Touchdowns become more valuable. Adams simply scores touchdowns.
Colston Loveland ($7,600): Tight ends are always a fixture in DFS Showdown slates. Loveland isn’t the typical tight-end dart throw. He’s not cheap, but he’s also not a roll of the dice. The usual goal with tight ends is to chase a cheap touchdown. Loveland doesn’t require that gamble. He was targeted 15 times last week, marking the third straight game the rookie earned double-digit targets.
Fade
Kyren Williams ($9,200): Playing any Ram against the Bears in Chicago on Sunday night carries risk. They could all fail — even if that’s unlikely. If something works for Los Angeles, it’s most likely Stafford and Nacua. Williams will get his normal workload, but he doesn’t profile as a slate-breaking option here. If Nacua is the slate breaker, then Williams is simply too expensive.
The Outcome
This looks like a grind-it-out playoff battle from the opening drive. Expect the Rams to mix runs, short passes, and screen concepts to mitigate the weather and Chicago’s defense. Turnovers and field position will matter more than explosive plays, and this game likely comes down to late execution rather than shootout fireworks.
