Towson Tigers vs. Charleston Panthers prediction, pick for NCAAM on Thursday 1/15/26

Charleston comes in at 11–6 and 4–0 in the CAA, playing like a top-tier team instead of a coin-flip contender. Towson is 9–9 and 1–4 in league play, and that makes every home game feel like a must. This number is tight because the matchup has competing identities, not because the teams are identical. Charleston wants the game to breathe; Towson wants it to feel heavy. The total at 142.5 is telling you we’re not getting a rock fight, but we’re not getting chaos either. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Towson Tigers and the Charleston Panthers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Towson vs. Charleston prediction, preview

One clean way to see it is tempo versus shot quality. Charleston plays faster at 71.0 possessions per game and scores at 1.074 per possession, while Towson sits at 66.4 and 0.995. Charleston’s eFG is 51.0% to Towson’s 46.2%, and the two-point gap is real, 55.0% on twos versus 49.4%. Towson’s counter lives in extra shots, because its offensive rebounding rate is 36.2% against Charleston’s 28.3%. That one lever can erase the shot-quality gap if Towson keeps turning misses into putbacks. The other big separator is the whistle. Charleston’s FTA/FGA is 0.457 versus Towson’s 0.280, which is a massive difference in free points equity.

The game’s pulse runs through specific creators and finishers. Jlynn Counter (G) is Charleston’s engine at 15.8 points with 4.8 assists, and he just posted 19 with seven assists and three steals in the 74–70 win at Hampton. Colby Duggan (G) can be the burst scorer, and he just dropped 22 in that Hampton game, which matters if Towson tries to load up on Counter. CJ Reeves (F) leads the rebounding at 6.4 per game, and his minutes matter because Towson’s whole identity is second-chance pressure. Towson’s frontcourt scoring starts with Tyler Tejada (F) at 16.7 per game, and he’s shown both the ceiling and the fragility lately. Dylan Williamson (G) is the swing guard. He just scored 22 on 10-for-15 in the 87–78 win at Northeastern, but he also had a 2-for-19 night versus Hofstra. That volatility is the whole handicap, because Towson can’t win if the guard scoring disappears.

Charleston vs. Towson pick, best bet

There is a clean way this breaks against Charleston, and it’s the home-court math. Towson is 8–1 at home, and Charleston is 3–4 away, so the environment is a real variable. Towson can also slow the game into a halfcourt slog where every extra rebound becomes a small scoring run. The pushback for Towson is that the conference form has been flat. Charleston is 5–0 over its last five, while Towson is 1–4, and the league splits show Charleston scoring 79.3 and allowing 67.8 in CAA play. Towson’s CAA line is 68.8 scored and 70.8 allowed, which is the profile of a team living on thin margins. If this is a one-shot game late, Charleston has the cleaner offensive base.

Expect Towson to keep crashing with Embeya and Tejada to turn every miss into a second shot, because that’s the one lever that can flip the eFG gap. Charleston should answer by spacing the floor, running Counter through ball screens, and forcing Towson’s bigs to guard in space. If Charleston turns the foul-pressure edge into steady line points, Towson’s home-court rebounding won’t be enough to hold it.

So I’m fine with Charleston +2.5, but I’m ramping up with the moneyline at +120 if for the outright angle. This spread is a question about closing minutes, and Charleston owns the two best “repeatable” advantages: better shot quality and more free-throw pressure. Towson can absolutely win if it turns the glass into a weapon, but I’d rather bet the side that can score without needing putbacks.

Predicted score: Charleston 74, Towson 71.

Best bet: Charleston (+120) at Towson
