What happened to Sam Merrill? Live injury updates for Cavaliers vs. 76ers on Wednesday 1/14/26

With 3:57 left in the second quarter of Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Sam Merrill was replaced by Donovan Mitchell. Merrill injured his right hand while trying to defend a drive. He is now questionable to return.

Prior to exiting, Merrill contributed three points and three rebounds in 10 minutes of action.

It’s a tough blow for the Cavaliers offense if Merrill is out for an extended period of time because no one else can replicate the 45% shooting from downtown. Craig Porter Jr. would likely be the biggest beneficiary if Merrill is out, but Kenny Atkinson could go with a bigger lineup.
