Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Pitt Panthers prediction, pick for NCAAM on Wednesday 1/14/26

Pittsburgh walks into Atlanta needing traction, not style points. The Panthers have stumbled to 7-9 and 1-4 in the ACC, and every close loss is starting to feel heavier. Georgia Tech sits at 10-7 with a 2-4 league mark, and it treats this home spot like a reset button. This game lives in that mid-January stretch where rotations harden and flaws get hunted. The number says coin-flip, so the edges have to be real. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Pitt Panthers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Georgia Tech vs. Pitt prediction, preview

Georgia Tech plays at 74.7 possessions per game, while Pitt crawls at 67.2, and that tug-of-war shapes everything. Tech’s defense has real teeth, holding opponents to a 46.0% eFG and 29.1% from three, so clean jumpers rarely arrive on schedule. Pitt’s offense sits at 52.5% eFG with a workable 34.7% from three, but it doesn’t live at the line. Pitt also has a travel-friendly way to stay alive, because it grabs 32.3% of its own misses and only allows a 25.7% offensive rebound rate back. Tech’s soft spot is obvious, with turnovers at 16.2% per play, and that’s the one gift Pitt can’t waste.

Cam Corhen (C) gives Pitt a steady interior base, with a 55.3% eFG, a 58.5% true shooting mark, and a 0.44 free-throw rate. Brandin Cummings (G) carries the late-clock scoring, and his 60.2 TS with a 0.46 free-throw rate plays in tight endings, not just open-floor nights. Damarco Minor (G) is the swing spacer, drilling 39.7% from three with a 63.4 TS, and Pitt needs his makes to survive Tech’s closeouts. Georgia Tech answers with Kowacie Reeves Jr. (G), who scores at volume while hitting 39.3% from three, and those shots are how Tech snaps runs. Baye Ndongo (F) cleans possessions with a 59.0% eFG and 3.0 offensive rebounds per game, which matters against Pitt’s physical rebounding. Lamar Washington (G) controls the game’s texture with 6.1 assists per game and a 0.48 free-throw rate, and he just put up a recent stat line that screamed control, not chaos.

Pitt vs. Georgia Tech pick, best bet

Pitt’s cover case is simple, and it’s the reason the spread is short. If Pitt slows the game, wins the glass, and keeps Tech’s turnovers from turning into transition points, it can grind out a two-point win. Pitt also has a real scoring ceiling when one guard catches fire, and Cummings just hung 29 on Syracuse in a loss that still proved the shotmaking exists. The pushback is that Tech’s defense shrinks rhythm threes, and Pitt’s perimeter confidence has wobbled in ACC play. Tech also shoots better after halftime in league games, while Pitt’s second-half threes have gone quiet, and that’s how a tight game becomes a six-point separation.

I’m taking the home side because the matchup edges fit the building. Tech’s defensive shot suppression travels into this game even if the pace slows, and Pitt’s low free-throw volume creates fragile late-game scoring. The whistle texture leans Tech, with a 0.366 free-throw rate against Pitt’s 0.320, and Pitt’s 69.2% at the line can leak points in a one-possession finish. Pitt can win this with rebounds and patience, but the path needs clean handling against a fast, physical opponent.

I’m on Georgia Tech +1.5, and I’ve got Georgia Tech 74, Pitt 71.

Best bet: Georgia Tech +1.5 (-115) vs. Pitt
