The PGA TOUR travels to Waialae Country Club (par 70, 7,044 yards, Bermuda greens) in Honolulu, Hawaii, for the Sony Open. This is the first event of the 2026 PGA TOUR season and Waialae CC has been the home of the Sony Open since the event’s inception in 1965. There will be 120 golfers competing this week and a top-65 and ties cut after the first two rounds.
Below, I have featured my two favorite bets for the Sony Open on DraftKings Sportsbook.
J.J. Spaun to win (+1800)
Spaun is a terrific bet at this number. The 35-year-old is the No. 6 player in the world after a career season on the PGA TOUR. Spaun made 21-of-25 cuts and carded seven top-10 finishes, including a win at the U.S. Open. Spaun was very close to securing a few other wins as well with three runner-up finishes, most notably the playoff loss to Rory McIlroy at THE PLAYERS Championship.
Spaun finished the season top-15 in SG APP and par four performance. Furthermore, he finished sixth in strokes gained per round at courses with Bermuda greens, all of which are great signs for Waialae CC, which is a par 70 that present Bermuda putting surfaces. All three of Spaun’s runner-up finishes last season came on Bermuda and his first career win came on Bermuda greens at TPC San Antonio for the 2022 Valero Texas Open. Additionally, Spaun just finished T4th at Albany Golf Course in Bahamas for last month’s Hero World Challenge, which is a tropical venue that features Bermuda putting surfaces. Last but not least, he finished a career-best T3rd at Waialae CC last season.
Spaun returns to the course this week 109 spots higher in the world golf rankings, so starting 2026 with a win at the Sony Open is a real possibility.
Harry Hall for a top-20 finish including ties (+140)
Hall is coming off his best season on the PGA TOUR, making 22-of-25 cuts. 12 of these finishes were top-20 results, including a T10 at the Sony Open. This was Hall’s third made cut in three starts at Waialae CC and he was the leader following the first round after opening with a 6-under 64.
Among the players in this field who have competed at Waialae CC more than once, Hall ranks eighth in strokes gained per round. Also, he finished last season third in SGP and 14th in strokes gained per round at courses with Bermuda greens.
Hall is a player who should contend often this season and should have a strong performance in his return to Waialae CC this week.
