Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, January 13: Luka Doncic
This is arguably the most stacked King of the Court slate we’ve ever seen. There are a myriad of PRA (points, rebounds and assists) monsters suiting up Tuesday.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be chasing revenge against the Spurs, a team that has dominated OKC this year. Victor Wembanyama will be looking to keep that trend alive. Anthony Edwards has already claimed this title once this year. Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the greatest stat-sheet stuffers the league has ever seen. Jalen Johnson, now the face of the Hawks, has been a force of nature this year. Most Improved Player frontrunner Deni Avdija is a triple-double machine.
And yet, one player stands out among the pack. At the end of the day, if Luka Doncic is eligible for the King of the Court crown, it’s going to be very hard to convince me to pick someone else. Yes, Doncic is on the second half of a back-to-back, but he just racked up 42 points, eight assists and seven rebounds against the Kings. It was the third time in his last five outings he has recorded at least 53 PRA.
Luka’s usage rate with the Lakers is through the roof, rarely dipping below 34%. With that workload against a Hawks team that ranks second in pace, he should have all the opportunities needed to claim his third King of the Court crown.
