The MVP candidate was elite throughout the regular season, but this will be his first career playoff game. The Chargers’ defense ranks fifth in dropback success rate and seventh in dropback EPA, and it will be Maye’s toughest test of the season after one of the easiest regular-season schedules in quite some time.
Maye threw an interception in 5-of-9 home games this season. In fact, out of those five games, four of them came against defenses that ranked inside the top half of the league in dropback EPA. He takes advantage of the poor secondaries but gets flustered against quality ones, and the Chargers are among the best. Los Angeles was tied for the third-most interceptions in the NFL and didn’t allow many 20+ and 40+ yard receptions throughout the season, which will force Maye to work the short and intermediate levels of the field.
