Prediction, pick for Subriel Matias vs. Dalton Smith

Tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Subriel Matias is defending his WBC Super Lightweight Championship against Dalton Smith, who is undefeated. Matias won the title against Alberto Puello in July 2025 and is making his first defense. Matias is 23-2 with 22 knockouts, while Smith has an 18-0 record with 13 knockouts.

Here is my best bet for tonight’s Matias vs. Smith title fight.

Subriel Matias Moneyline (-160)

This is an phenomal matchup between two of the best fighters at 140 pounds. Matias is the more experienced fighter in this contest, with seven more bouts in his career, and is five years older than Smith. But up until this point, no one has been able to defeat Smith.

Matias does have two losses on his record, but is 8-1 in his previous nine bouts, with seven of them coming by finish. Since coming up short against Liam Paro in June 2024, Matias has scored two knockouts with another win by majority decison.

On DraftKings Sportsbook, Matias is a -160 favorite with Smith being the +125 underdog. This fight has an over/under of 10.5 rounds with the over being -170.

With two elite power punchers, it would be surprising if one picks up an early victory. Matias has more big-fight experience and needs to lean on that in the second half of the bout. At 33 years old, while coming off a majority decison, Matias knows he needs to be aggressive in this fight. Although Smith is supremely talented, I’m going to back the reigning champion, who is the veteran in this fight.
