It’s been something of a rough season for Josh Jacobs as he battled nagging injuries for multiple weeks. While not the most effective runner of the football in terms of efficiency at 4.0 YPC, Jacobs has still made quite the impact when on the field. Across 15 games, some of which were shortened by injury, the veteran halfback has racked up 929 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. He’s a grinding back who wears opposing defenses out and clearly remains the focal point of a Packers offense ranked fifth in rush play percentage. That makes him an invaluable talent, particularly in a postseason environment. While not a big focus in the receiving game, he’s also hauled in 36 catches for 282 yards and one more touchdown, bringing his grand total to 1,211 scrimmage yards and 14 scores on the campaign.
The matchup against the Bears does bring reason to believe Jacobs could channel his vintage self down the stretch. Chicago ranks 27th in rushing yards allowed and 24th in defensive EPA/rush while allowing 5.0 YPC, third-highest in the NFL.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Jacobs’ prop bet lines are set at O/U 18.5 rush attempts, 81.5 rushing yards, 1.5 receptions and 15.5 receiving yards. His -150 odds to score an anytime touchdown are the shortest of any player in this game.
If there’s any prop bet pick that looks best for Jacobs on Saturday, it’s surely the over on his rush attempts. Traditionally speaking through his career, he’s performed as a workhorse back and saw particularly heavy usage last season. In a playoff environment, teams tend to lean on their top playmakers even more than usual, but there are other factors at play which lend themselves to a prime environment for extra touches. Chicago’s defense remains vulnerable to the run as mentioned above, but the team’s offense scored 25.9 points per game with an average of 369.2 yards as well. The Bears possess a top-10 attack by almost all measurements and can pour on points in a hurry — with that in mind, the Packers will likely look to dominate possession and keep the ball out of their opponents’ hands as much as possible.
Given the circumstances, it wouldn’t be shocking to see 20+ carries for Jacobs as Green Bay pounds the rock in cold conditions to wear out the opposing defense and keep the Bears’ offensive playmakers off the field. Jacobs did record 20 rush attempts in the first meeting between these teams back in Week 14, though he saw just 12 carries in Week 16’s rematch. Still, this environment is one in which the star running back can thrive and sets him up for plenty of opportunities on the ground. The over on this volume play is the way to go.
Best Bet: Josh Jacobs over 18.5 rush attempts (-110)
