Part of what makes Oregon’s passing game so unique is that there is no alpha. Quarterback Dante Moore makes a concerted effort to spread the ball around to several talented pass catchers. Wideout Malik Benson leads the Ducks with 696 receiving yards; trailing right behind is tight end Kenyon Sadiq. The potential first round pick has turned heads this season, combining elite athleticism with stellar play making abilities. This season, the junior has hauled in 46 catches for 531 yards and eight touchdowns.
The wide-open nature of Oregon’s offense can make things somewhat difficult for bettors. With that being said, Sadiq is arguably the most consistent Ducks weapon. In four of his last five games, the 29-year-old has caught at least four passes. While these are often for minimal gain, the 6’3″ target is an ideal safety blanket for Moore. Against a relentless Indiana pass rush, the ball will need to move quickly. As a result, expect plenty of modest receptions for this talented tight end on Friday.
Kaelon Black 66+ rushing yards (-121)
All the attention for Indiana revolves around quarterback Fernando Mendoza. However, the Heisman winner is supported by one of the nation’s best backfields. The two-headed monster of Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black have wreaked havoc across the Big Ten. Together, the duo has combined for 1,905 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns this season. The only issue? The pair are both evenly matched, demanding a near 50/50 split in carries. That can make backing one over the other a risky proposition.
Last week, both running backs were involved during IU’s blowout win over Alabama. With that being said, it was Black that gained more rushing yards (99) than Hemby (89). There’s no guarantee that continues this week, but it’s a promising sign for the former. Over Indiana’s last two games, Black has garnered 16 and 15 rush attempts, respectively. Those are both season-high marks for the senior. Oregon’s run defense, while solid, isn’t impenetrable. The Ducks are allowing 110.8 rushing yards per game to opponents, good enough for sixth in the Big Ten. When these schools met in October, the Hoosiers churned out 111 yards on the ground. If that continues tonight, Black stands to benefit in a major way.
