The first Grand Slam on the tennis calendar is almost here as the best players in the world are in Melbourne for the Australian Open.

The reign of dominance from those two was broken by a youngster named Novak Djokovic, who won the first of his 24 Grand Slam titles at the 2008 Australian Open. There doesn’t appear to be a player like that in this year’s field, ready to take down this elite duo. That is why Sinner and Alcaraz are the two big favorites to win the 2026 Australian Open.
Sinner is the -125 favorite to win the title, with Carlos Alcaraz sitting at +160 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The two have evenly split the last eight Grand Slam titles, but both Australian Opens have belonged to Jannik Sinner. Sinner has won two straight here in Melbourne, and three of his four major titles have come on hardcourt. Meanwhile, this is the one title that Carlos Alcaraz is missing to complete the career Grand Slam. If Alcaraz wins the Australian Open this year, or next year for that matter, he would break his fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal’s record as the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam. However, Alcaraz has struggled at this event. Not only has he never won, but he has also never advanced past the quarterfinals.
2026 Australian Open: Sinner vs. Alcaraz Prop Bets
These two prop bets demonstrate how truly dominant this duo is. Sinner is the favorite to win the tournament at -125, but the odds are even shorter on Alcaraz and Sinner to meet in the Final. DraftKings Sportsbook has the odds at -140 for this duo to meet in the Final for the fourth consecutive Grand Slam. The even more dramatic line is that Alcaraz or Sinner to win is set at -1200, while the rest of the field is +600 to win the Australian Open. Oddsmakers are expecting the dominance that this duo has displayed over the last two years to continue into 2026.
Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton are a few of the challengers that will try to break the streak that this duo is on. However, all of those players have their faults. Djokovic has openly admitted that he can no longer keep up with these two, and as he continues to age, it looks increasingly likely that he has won his last Grand Slam title. Meanwhile, Zverev, Fritz and Shelton have all never won a Grand Slam title before. The first is always the hardest to win, and while all of those players are supremely talented, the idea of potentially having to beat both Alcaraz and Sinner in the same tournament seems a nearly impossible task.
Medvedev is the only serious challenger outside of Djokovic who has a Grand Slam title to his name. Medvedev won the 2021 US Open, but that was before either Sinner or Alcaraz had won their first Grand Slam title. It was an impressive win for Medvedev, with Djokovic dominating the sport and Rafael Nadal still at a competitive level, but there were not two truly elite players to get through like there are now. Medvedev has been very inconsistent the last two years, and realistically, it would take a miracle for him to win this tournament.
Between the two elite players at the top of this field, Jannik Sinner is the one to back for the 2026 Australian Open. It is rare to see a player be the odds-on favorite in a tournament with such a big field, but that just goes to show how special Sinner is. He clearly loves playing in Melbourne, as he has won this event two years in a row. Novak Djokovic won 10 out of 15 Australian Opens over his reign of dominance, and there is a chance that Jannik Sinner could be the new dominant force in Melbourne. Until Alcaraz proves that he can get it done at this event, Sinner is the man to beat. Even at -125, it is worth a bet on Sinner to win, then you can tack on a longshot or two that you think have a chance to be the Cinderella story of this tournament.
