Best NHL props for Tuesday 1/6/26
Jake Oettinger over 26.5 saves (-105)
The biggest story in tonight’s Stars vs. Hurricanes matchup is Mikko Rantanen’s return to Carolina for the first time since his brief stint there. After all, how could it not be the most dramatic storyline on tonight’s slate given how that saga played out? A sprinkle on 2+ points for the star in his revenge game at +180 odds does entice me, but we’re instead looking toward Jake Oettinger as a top pick in this one. The netminder’s numbers are down slightly this season, but he does remain a standout option at the position even with a 2.62 GAA and .905 SV%. The prop bet to target is over 26.5 saves for Dallas’ star, a line he’s eclipsed in six of his last 10 games and 12 of his 26 on the campaign overall. Why should you feel confident choosing this one? The Hurricanes pressure the net at one of the NHL’s highest rates with 32.1 shots per game, second-most of any team behind only the Avalanche’s 34.5. Carolina should send plenty of pucks in Oettinger’s direction, setting him up to go over this prop line even if a couple slip through.
Tage Thompson 4+ shots (+125)
The Sabres’ winning streak came to an end back on Saturday with a loss to the Blue Jackets, but Buffalo still managed 10 consecutive victories with some real statements over that span. At the center of that was none other than star Tage Thompson, who mustered 13 points over that stretch as one of the clear best players on the ice at any given time. In a soft matchup against the Canucks tonight, he could very well rack up 4+ shots with plus money on that line making it an intriguing prop bet. Vancouver allows 29.6 shots per game, seventh-most. Thompson’s also reached that four-shot mark in six of his last 10 games and back-to-back outings, as well as 20 of his 40 overall on the year. He should be quite active here at home as the Sabres look to get back in the win column and continue this excellent stretch of lay.
