Martin Necas Anytime Goalscorer (+180)
There is nothing wrong with taking the Nathan MacKinnon route instead; those odds just aren’t as juicy. Enter Necas, who has netted five goals in the past five games, with all of them coming at 5v5. In fact, 14 of Necas’ 19 goals this season have come when playing at 5v5, and it just so happens that the Avalanche are facing the Blues, the fifth-worst team in the NHL when it comes to 5v5 goals against per 60. I’d expect that Jordan Binnington draws the start on Wednesday night for St. Louis, but even if it is Joel Hofer for a second straight game, Colorado is the best team in the league and should have very few issues finding the back of the net.
Nikita Kucherov Anytime Goalscorer (+145)
The 32-year-old has posted back-to-back two-goal games and draws a favorable matchup on Wednesday night against a poor goaltending team in the Ducks. Kucherov has averaged a healthy 7.3 shot attempts per game this season, which should bode well for him against Anaheim, which allows the 12th-most shots per game. While his goalscoring has been a bit inconsistent, and he has failed to find success in this area against the Ducks in the past, Anaheim’s goaltending has been poor, and it is seemingly worsening as the season progresses. The Ducks already rank first in 5v5 goals against per 60, but across the last 10 games, that number has increased even more, and the club leads this category by a very wide margin.
Zach Hyman Anytime Goalscorer (+140)
You really cannot go wrong with any of the top goalscorers on the Oilers, but I’m choosing the guy who 1) has consistently found the back of the net lately and 2) is almost guaranteed to be sharing the ice with Connor McDavid for the entire game. Hyman has scored at least one goal in seven of the past 10 outings, which includes a hat trick on Dec. 11 against the Red Wings. During this span, he ranks first in expected goals and fourth in goals for per 60. The production has come at all levels, whether it be 5v5 or on the power play, too. Of Hyman’s nine goals during this span, three of them have come via the power play, but I think that will change tonight against a Bruins squad that leads the league in penalty minutes.
